Last Software Scan Date is NOT updating

$
0
0

I have an issue where several thousand machines are not updating their Last Software Scan Date value after a full scan is performed.

Using a LANDesk script to force a full scan, the following command runs:

REMEXEC1=<qt/>%LDMS_CLIENT_DIR%\LDISCN32.EXE<qt/> /NTT=%server%:5007 /S="%server%" /I=HTTP://%server%/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz /NOUI /NOCD /F /SYNC

On almost 4000 machines, 3500 report as successfully scanned.

When I run a report or a query on LAST Software Scan Date - the date does not change and remains between 10 and 30 days ago. Other "Last scanned" fields update with the current date.

1. Why is this date field not updating?

2. Can I be reasonably sure that Software scans are not occuring?

3. What can I do to make sure that software scans are occuring and that the date field gets updated?

ldiscn32.exe crashes every time, even after client reinstallation

ldiscn32.exe crashes every time, locally on one of my Win7x64 client machines. no ldiscn32.log file is created. even the /o switch won't produce a log file.

event viewer shows minimal info. Faulting application/module name: LDISCN32.EXE, version: 9.60.2.111, time stamp xxx.

Event ID =1000, Task Category = (100). Exception code: 0x40000015

running locally or remotely (via psexec) both return error code 3. I can run miniscan.exe successfully via psexec which will update the ip in ldconsole, allowing remote control.

I've tried to reinstall the entire client twice but the issue persists. The client machine seems totally fine outside of ldiscn32...

This is how the wscfg32.log file ends the client install process:

I haven't tried the UninstallWinClient.exe from ldmain yet... but it seems a client re-installation first uninstalls all modules before re-installing... not sure if there's a difference there.

Suggestions? We're running LDMS 9.6 sp1.

Inventory Service Crashing

The Inventory Service on our Core server is crashing every couple of weeks or so. I checked the error log and there is a set of reoccuring errors being reported by the Inventory Service within a minute of each other before the crash:

First error: "the size of AppSoftwareSuites.PRODUCTID is too small, increase its size by at least 10."

Second error: "Database exception:

SCA8EE9.SCN

LDInv.dll

-2147217887

Multiple-step operation generated errors. Check each status value.

Update Table:AppSoftwareSuites Column:PRODUCTID PK:Easy Grade Pro

Thread ID: 12576."

Third error: "Could not read the metaschema. Make sure the database is a valid LANDesk 7.5 or greater version."

Fourth error: "Database exception: ."

The third and fourth errors occur less frequently then the first two, which occur quite often without causing a crash. However, the group of four errors often occur all within the same minute of each other before the Inventory Service crashes.

It appears that every time the third and fourth errors occur, the Inventory Scanner on the Core server reports: "LDIScn32: The inventory server OTSCYLANDESK did not respond.". Clients can not send in inventory scans until the service is started again manually. I have already set the service to restart on every failure (Computer Management>Services>LANDesk Inventory Service). I have also set configure>Inventory>Advanced Settings>set "DB Error Recovery" to "10000". After restarting the service manually, the service runs for a week or two and then crashes again.

I have also seen at least one occasion where the last error reported by the Inventory Service says "Out of memory". The server has 3.5GB of memory.

I should mention that we are currently getting approx. 1500 rejected delta scans due to Deepfreeze being on half of our computing environment. We have not yet turned off Delta scanning as we are going to try to resolve the issue without turning off Delta scanning. Every other day or so, I empty the ErrorScan folder on the Core server. Could this be causing the problem?

Thanks,

Dan

Inventory scanner (LDISCN32.EXE) crashing

$

We just upgraded our core from 8.7 SP5 to 8.8 SP2. I'm going through the process of updating all the agents to the new version but I've run into a snag. On a certain model of laptop (HP 6735b) the inventory scanner crashes on the hardware scanning portion and causes a Dr Watson intervention. This doesn't happen on any of our other computers but this is the only one with an AMD SATA controller. The reason I think it has to do with the SATA controller is because if I add the "/NOATA" switch to LDISCN32.EXE then it doesn't crash. We didn't have this problem with the 8.7 SP5 agent.

I looked at the dump file and according to the stack trace it looks like it is crashing after the command "LDISCN32!ApplyPatch". I'm pretty familiar with debugging these type of things but I'm not a developer so I could be wrong. I could post the analysis or send someone the heap dump file if they want to look at it.

Anyway my question is has anyone else seen this problem? Or does anyone know how to add the "/NOATA" switch to the inventory scanner for these computers? We just have it scheduled in the agent to run every 24 hours. So we don't have a script telling it to run and we are not running it at startup. Or maybe some more information on what exactly the "/NOATA" switch does so I can narrow down whether it is the controller or not.

Thanks in advance!

Fixed Hard Drive Serial Number is incorrect

To whom it may concerns,

There is a fixed hard drive serial number incorrect situation. We found several customer machines which installed LDMS 9.5 SP3 got this problem. Please see the image file serialnumber2.png, This pic was captured this machine inventory tree, and the hard drive serial number is incorrect. But if see the image file named serialnumber1.png. This pic was captured from the machine powershell command line. and it did returned the correct hard drive serial number. I have checked the workaround solution from https://community.landesk.com/support/docs/32711. But I hope this problem can be fixed future.

Build a new custom inventory on LDMS 9.6

Hello,

I search the documentation related with the creation of a new custom inventory, in LDMS 9.6

For example :
I need to inventory the value of chain inside the Registry (windows).
Or I need to read the content of a file, and catch the third line.

-
Do I need to build a script (batch, vbs, powershell) that make the job, and the script write the content inside a special file (like a MIB file) inside a directory used by the Landesk agent ?
Is there other proposals ?

-

Then after that, do I need to declare something at LDMS Console , too ?

Query for custom file?

I have a deployment job set up that copies a custom configuration file to the client's hard drive. I want to set up a query to find out if this task was successful. Is there a way to do this?

I've already added the file to the "to be scanned" section of the Manage Software List. I just cannot figure out how to query for it. I am running LANDESK 2016.

the renovation of the base of inventory does not occur

Good day.

You will excuse, my language am limited.

My problem: the "inventory scan" worked is not correct.

Starting from the console of "inventory scan" causes appearance in the window of " Alert History" message about the error.

"LDISCN32: Error in secure data transport"

The same error returns start string "LDISCN32.EXE /L /F /SYNC /V " at the working station.

First time "inventory scan" sometimes passes normally. Subsequently workstation data do not change.

Another time the data about the station are minimum (TCP/IP address, ComputerName and 4-5 fields) and also they do not change

Automatically Delete old Computers

So I have been wondering for a while now why I have so many old devices showing up in my inventory. According to this doc (http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-1188) The "Days to keep inventory scans" is supposed to take care of this, but it doesn't seem to be working. I have mine set to 30 days, but I have machines showing up in inventory with Last Hardware Scan Date of over 6 months ago. Why is this not working or how do I get it to work? Thanks.

Custom data fields? I need to to add a few and get close to 100% coverage

$

I need some advice on how to add a couple of custom data fields. I need to add custom fields from a previous database, and I need to add my own custom "Function" field. I only have the Management Suite 9.6 sp 0. No other addons like the Inventory or Analytics.

Custom Fields from Previous Database

I've been given from a previous inventory system a list of computer names, serial numbers, and custom fields. I can match it all up using serial number as a key, but I need to add the custom data fields. These are department and cost center. The list is for about 6,000 computers, most of which were manually collected. Because of the effort involved in collecting the data, I need to get these into the database, even if they aren't used much.

Custom "Function" field

I also found with my last large deployment that I need to classify computers based on it's function. A custom "Function" field. It's a hospital, so some computers are in the OR and others run a TV screen of advertisements. They have different deployment requirements then a secretary or patient room computer. Actually the rule list became quite complicated. That's fine, but all I had to categorize them is OU, subnet, name, model, and installed software. With no ability to use another query in a query, or a temporary table, my queries became very complicated and slow. A "function" field would help a lot if it gets close to 100% coverage.

I've got the custom field in the registry, and have inventory collecting it. It works nice, but I won't get full coverage with it. For example, I might not be allowed to write to a registry on some computers (ie Vendor owned that runs lab or surgery equipment). I've tried deploying a .bat file, but didn't get 100% success, and I'm starting to think 100% of any deployment is unrealistic.

I've played around with thecustom forms. That looks good. It could help with future collection of department, cost center, computer function fields. It could get some more coverage of the custom data if I have compliance from field support.

I've seen how I can manually add a field in the Inventory window for a specific computer. But wow that'd be slow. We have 12,000 objects in our inventory. Even if half are old, It'd take forever to do it that way. Having to even do 100 would be a cause for beer at lunch, I mean at 5.

I've access to the Database and the thought of sql insert/update queries has crossed my mind. But the database is big and would take some time to figure out. I have a lot of other work to do so holding that off as a last resort.

Any advice would be appreciated. I'd rather do this within the Console because I'm trying to avoid making this too difficult for someone else to step in and do. But if this has to be done using some programming or outside manipulation of the database then its something I definitely consider since both are very important. I'm functional in c#, powershell, and sql. I have a database admin who should be a sql master and a couple guys who know a bit of VB who could potentially help. Also I might be looking at it wrong, so if there is another process that can accomplish the division of computers besides the custom field that could work too.

Thanks

Security Update for Microsoft Windows not showing in inventory

$

I have a Window 10 client (1607) that has the patch for wannacrypt installed (KB4013429) along with a number of other patches. KB4013429 was installed 4/5/2017. However, inventory just shows 5 updates installed and KB4013429 is not one of them. I'm trying to scan for how many machines are patched. There are other machines that do report that patch installed.

I've tried running full sync scans from the console end, running inventory from the client end, re-installing the client, deleting the client from the console and again re-installing the client with the same results. Inventory\Name\OS\Updates\updates still only shows 5 installed updates.

Last Software Scan Date and Last Updated by Inventory Scanner all show today's date and the time is just after client installation

LD version is 9.60.2.48

Patch was originally installed through our WSUS server

Duplicate computer entry in network view (with same Device ID, same Device name, same NIC Address)

$

We have installed new Core server with 2016.3U4 and we have migrated our clients, from 9.5 infrastructure, installing the new 2016.3U4 agent.

This is working quite fine, but in some cases we have duplicated entry in the network view (all devices). The inventory of the two objects\PCs is identical and also checking in the DB we can see only one entry for that computer name.

Also performing a Query to extract only the hostname of the duplicated PC, we receive two entry as result.

LANDesk is set to remove duplicate ID, but seems this is not the case or this duplication is not recognized as duplicate ID\Device.

A workaround is delete one of the two entry (and in this case also the other disappears) and wait a new inventory that will create only one correct entry.

Does someone know the possible cause of this? or a better workaround\solution?

Thank you in advance

Best way to monitor free disk space on specific machines

Hi!

We recently implemented LDMS in our environment. One thing I want to do

now is to monitor the free disk space on our servers.

So when the free disk space on a server on any partition gets below

5 GB I want to receive a warning mail.

It would be really great if somebody could advice me on how to realize this.

Thanks in advance.

Exporting and Importing LANDesk users

Anyone know of a tool or way to do this? I have alot of users to migrate over to a new core server...

I was hoping to export them but it does not seem possible. It will Export a Sys file but not an ldms file so nothing can be imported to the new core..

We are going from a 9.5 core to a 2016.3.

Any ideas?
