LDSCAN .scn files not processing fast enough

What do i need to do to make the scan files get processed faster?

I have a gig link between the servers and SQL server is on SAN. Processor wise, both server have enough to work but seems like creation of .scn files is faster than the processing of the server.. what can be done to help LANDesk with that so that the system does not go out of disk space.

Remote PC's will not inventory or pull policy unless connected via VPN

Hope someone can help with this.

We are running LDMS 9 SP2 and have noticed that none of our clients will inventory or pull policy when outside of the corporate network unless they are connected to VPN.  When i try to run a manual inv scan we get the error ldiscn32: failed to resolve host name.  We cannot obtain a client certificate via brokerconfig.exe unless we are connected to VPN and when we try to use desktop manager we get the same result.

Any help is much appreciated.

thanks

Last Software Scan Date is NOT updating

$

I have an issue where several thousand machines are not updating their Last Software Scan Date value after a full scan is performed.

Using a LANDesk script to force a full scan, the following command runs:

REMEXEC1=<qt/>%LDMS_CLIENT_DIR%\LDISCN32.EXE<qt/> /NTT=%server%:5007 /S="%server%" /I=HTTP://%server%/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz /NOUI /NOCD /F /SYNC

On almost 4000 machines, 3500 report as successfully scanned.

When I run a report or a query on LAST Software Scan Date - the date does not change and remains between 10 and 30 days ago. Other "Last scanned" fields update with the current date.

1. Why is this date field not updating?

2. Can I be reasonably sure that Software scans are not occuring?

3. What can I do to make sure that software scans are occuring and that the date field gets updated?

Custom data inventory not working

Hi,

We migrate from 9.0 sp3 to 9.5 a month ago. Prior to the migration we didn't have any problem with our custom data.

Last week, I found out that if I add a new custom data based on a registry key, it will not show up in the inventory. As I had a lot of old custom data, I decided to clean my base with dbrepair.exe...

Since then, 95% of my custom data (wich were perfectly working before) don't show up anymore. The other 5% are working perfectly, I can modify them, delete them and re-add them.

When I look at the ldappl3.ini file on a client, I found all my registry key referenced.

The option "Block Unknown Inventory Items" is not activate by default. I did try to activate it to see if it will populate the list of unknown items : that's not the case.

On one of our client, I run a full scan with the O switch. It collected all the custom data to the outpout file.

So it seems that inventory work fine, but the data won't get imported into the base.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Suspending Scans for a period of time

Hello All,

I have recently become an administrator over my companies LANDesk environment.  I'm looking to see if there is a way to stop all scans for a group of computers for a brief period of time within the 9.0 SP2 environment.

I have a high volume of network traffic hitting a specific group of computers which will be maximizing local resources.  During this time I would like to suspend any LANDesk related scans (be it vuln or inventory scans, etc.) and am not sure how to go about doing this.

Can anyone recommend a particular section within the manual or any articles regarding this subject matter?  I'm having no luck finding the information myself.

Thanks in advance.

LDIScn32: bind failed Event ID 17

I have about 10 PC's in my network that keep bluescreening in the middle of the night. After checking the event viewer the last thing that kicked off was the Inventory Scanner. There was an error in the event viewer that read

Event ID 17

LDIScn32: bind failed.

Then there was no further activity in the log until the user rebooted the PC's when coming in during the morning. When I check the ldiscn log on the local PC it reads:

Sun, 09 Mar 2008 17:50:08 Checking if firewall is enabled : ({77DE0087-6962-49F9-89C8-7307C0B2BF4A})

Sun, 09 Mar 2008 17:50:32 Failed to init : (800706D9)

Sun, 09 Mar 2008 17:50:33 UninstallString: msiexec.exe /i{50e125d1-88e5-48ce-80ae-98ec9698e639}

Sun, 09 Mar 2008 17:50:57 open key Software\Utimaco\SGEasy with flags 0x20019 returns handle 0, status 2

I am pretty sure it's the Inventory scanner that's blue screening these PC's. Why it's bluescreening, I don't know. These particular PC's are each connected to a Schick dental Xray machine (http://www.schicktech.com/) via a USB sensor.

What's weird, is during the day I can run a manual Inventory scan on a PC with no problem. The only thing I can think is at night the PC power features kick in and maybe this is causing the problem in combination of the Schick Xray and USB sensor. The power features are setup as Home/Office Desk and turn off monitor after 20 minutes. These are Dell Optiplex 745.

What I've done now is changed the power features to always on and never turn off monitor. Then I created a new agent that has the following settings

a. Inventory Scan only happens when user is logged in and inbewteen the hours of 0800 and 1400 and Monday through Friday. This will ensure that inventory scans happen only during working hours and when someone is logged. The scans seem to complete fine during the day, it seems they only fail when running in the middle of the night.

So apart from any suggestions as to why the BSoD might be happening...is there a way I can check the local agent on the PC to ensure that the inventory scans are going to happen at the times I set in the newly created agent? I know I am being paranoid but these BSoD are causing my department much grief.

Thanks!

ldiscn32.exe crashes every time, even after client reinstallation

ldiscn32.exe crashes every time, locally on one of my Win7x64 client machines.  no ldiscn32.log file is created.  even the /o switch won't produce a log file.

event viewer shows minimal info.  Faulting application/module name: LDISCN32.EXE, version: 9.60.2.111, time stamp xxx.

Event ID =1000, Task Category = (100).  Exception code: 0x40000015

running locally or remotely (via psexec) both return error code 3.  I can run miniscan.exe successfully via psexec which will update the ip in ldconsole, allowing remote control.

I've tried to reinstall the entire client twice but the issue persists.  The client machine seems totally fine outside of ldiscn32...

This is how the wscfg32.log file ends the client install process:

I haven't tried the UninstallWinClient.exe from ldmain yet... but it seems a client re-installation first uninstalls all modules before re-installing... not sure if there's a difference there.

Suggestions?  We're running LDMS 9.6 sp1.

Inventory scan isn't updating Custom Data values

Last week I added some Custom Data fields (registry values for Java Update info).  After the inventory scan, the values showed up for the machines (JavaRT & Policy)

Untitled.png

Over the weekend I ran a job to update the registry enties to what we require and inventory got updated as picture above.   However, upon reboot, the registry entries reset to the original values (that;s a different can of worms).

The Inventory has not reverted even with a FULL SYCN SCAN.   If I use REGEDIT on the machine the values are different then the LDMS Inventory.

At this point I can't trust the Custom Data I have in inventory.

How can I get this corrected?

I'm running LDMS 9.0, SP3.

Thanks for your help.

Service account temp internet files growing by 20GB per day

Anyone else seen this. We use a service account for LANDesk and that account on our core has begun amassing 20GB+ of data in it's temporary internet folder every day.

I have to reboot the server into safe mode to kill all the stuff in there because it's being used by another task.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

Changing the Column Set for Network View

I would like to see a couple of columns in my Network View. Thanks to some help on these forums, I know how to change my columns, but I cannot find the exact thing I am looking for.

What I want is Active Directory Computer Description or Location

I have tried:

Under Column Config, My Column Set, Computer, Asset Info

  1. Description
  2. Department
  3. Location

Also at the bottom of the list, Computer

  1. Comment
  2. Computer Location
  3. Description (same as asset info description)
  4. LDAP Location

Can anyone help me out with where to find some AD info on my computers?

Scope refresh interval in LDMS 9 ?

Hi,

Using scopes in LDMS 9 can help us a lot for RBA

I have applied scopes using a LDAP query. (per OU in Active Directory)

But apparently, the scope isn't updating instantly when objects are moved from OU (in Active Directory).

How can a scope refresh been forced, or where can the refresh time be configured in LDMS 9?

Thanks!

Custom data fields? I need to to add a few and get close to 100% coverage

$

I need some advice on how to add a couple of custom data fields.  I need to add custom fields from a previous database, and I need to add my own custom "Function" field.  I only have the Management Suite 9.6 sp 0.  No other addons like the Inventory or Analytics.

Custom Fields from Previous Database

I've been given from a previous inventory system a list of computer names, serial numbers, and custom fields.  I can match it all up using serial number as a key, but  I need to add the custom data fields.  These are department and cost center.  The list is for about 6,000 computers, most of which were manually collected.  Because of the effort involved in collecting the data, I need to get these into the database, even if they aren't used much.

Custom "Function" field

I also found with my last large deployment that I need to classify computers based on it's function.  A custom "Function" field.  It's a hospital, so some computers are in the OR and others run a TV screen of advertisements.  They have different deployment requirements then a secretary or patient room computer.  Actually the rule list became quite complicated.  That's fine, but all I had to categorize them is OU, subnet, name, model, and installed software.  With no ability to use another query in a query, or a temporary table, my queries became very complicated and slow.  A "function" field would help a lot if it gets close to 100% coverage.

I've got the custom field in the registry, and have inventory collecting it.  It works nice, but I won't get full coverage with it.  For example, I might not be allowed to write to a registry on some computers (ie Vendor owned that runs lab or surgery equipment).  I've tried deploying a .bat file, but didn't get 100% success, and I'm starting to think 100% of any deployment is unrealistic.

I've played around with thecustom forms.  That looks good.  It could help with future collection of department, cost center, computer function fields.  It could get some more coverage of the custom data if I have compliance from field support.

I've seen how I can manually add a field in the Inventory window for a specific computer. But wow that'd be slow.  We have 12,000 objects in our inventory.  Even if half are old, It'd take forever to do it that way.  Having to even do 100 would be a cause for beer at lunch, I mean at 5.

I've access to the Database and the thought of sql insert/update queries has crossed my mind.  But the database is big and would take some time to figure out.  I have a lot of other work to do so holding that off as a last resort.

Any advice would be appreciated.  I'd rather do this within the Console because I'm trying to avoid making this too difficult for someone else to step in and do.  But if this has to be done using some programming or outside manipulation of the database then its something I definitely consider since both are very important.  I'm functional in c#, powershell, and sql.  I have a database admin who should be a sql master and a couple guys who know a bit of VB who could potentially help.  Also I might be looking at it wrong, so if there is another process that can accomplish the division of computers besides the custom field that could work too.

Thanks

Inventory not reflecting correct data. OS>Policy>Strong Password and Screen Saver Password

$

Our Auditors want to use the Strong Password and Screen Saver Password attributes in inventory under OS > Policy in their reporting.  We've built the reports but we're finding that the values collect don't reflect the actual settings on the devices.

For instance, my device shows that I don't have a Strong Password policy applied as far as LD is concerned.  But when I run an RSOP, it clearly states that I have password complexity requirements.

stongpwd.png

My machine is not the only one doing this.  And other machines have incorrect data in the Screen Saver Password attribute.

Does anyone else see this problem in their inventories?

Does anyone know how LD derives whether these policies are inforced or not?

Thanks

Mike

PS - We are running 9.5 SP2 with the 0417 patches.  I have also confirmed the same behavior in the recent 9.6 release that I have in test.

Need Help Creating Query to Find Computers Without Updated Program

$

Hi everyone,

I'm fresh to operating LANdesk and myself and others in our staff are really racking our brains about how to resolve this. So, being a total n00b, I'll try to explain this as best possible. And please be simple in response! (Anyone have a LANdesk for dummies?)

I'm trying to create a query to find computers that do not have a specific version of a program installed. I figured the simple answer is to just use "not exist" and the title/version of the program I'm looking for.But that doesn't seem to work like that. I can't effectively do a search of all previous versions, because the program can run the new version with or without the old version. We need to find what PC's do not have the program installed so we can make sure to get the program pushed out or get to it by foot.

Thanks!

Inventory for Internet Explorer Plugins

I have been asked to verify the existence of 2 ocx files in our environment.  I found this entry regarding inventorying for other file types:  Re: Scan for a specific file and return file path?.   It looks kind of like what I want, but it states that OCX files are ignored by the inventory scanner.  Can anyone verify this for me? I did go ahead and add those to the scanned files list on both my 9.5 SP2 and 9.6 cores but I didn't get any information back with some test scans I ran.   The two files I am looking for are put out by Oracle as part of their Enterprise One software.`  Their file names are jdeexpimpU.ocx and jdewebctlsU.ocx if that matters at all.  If inventory doesn't work, I can go the custom vulnerability route, but I wanted to make sure before I went that route.  Thank you.

Random Printout From Serial Thermal Printer

We are trying to troubleshoot why several of our computers with "SNBC BTP-2002NP" thermal receipt printers randomly print out PJL commands.  The printers are connected to  POS computers that connect to a terminal server.  The printer is not installed it is just connected to the com 2 port.  The POS software runs from the terminal server and prints to the com 2 port.  When this happens it causes the application to freeze up on the RD Web Windows Terminal Server for the individuals session.  Does anyone know how LANDesk polls for printers to add them to inventory?  Would LANDesk send the following commands to the com port during inventory to determine information?
