Is it possible to run a report in LDMS that will provide a list of users that have admin rights to that box.

Thanks.

Bulk edit user defined attribute?

This may not be the best way to do it, but I've gotten the directive that our laptop inventory needs to include the assigned user's department.

So I've added a custom attribute at the top level of the inventory to a few machines. I do this by right clicking on the device in the console, choosing Inventory, and clicking New String in the inventory window. I named the string Department, and set the value as IT, or Investments, etc.

Now that I've let it sit for a bit, that string has populated to the rest of the inventory (not the value, of course), so it's a bit easier to update. Still, I'm looking for a way to select multiple devices and update the value on that string for all of them.

Any ideas? Is there a better way to go about this?

Registry key for Custom Fields in Windows 7

In Windows XP there is the HKLM\Software\Intel\Landesk\Inventory\Custom Fields\ key to drop in custom data.

How does this work in Windows 7?  There is not an Inventory\Custom Fields on 7.  (At least it is not created by default).

Delete unwanted inventory items from the SQL database?

I'm attempting to clean out some of the custom information I've imported in the past, that are now just cluttering things up.  I'd like to verify that I completely remove them, without causing problems.  From what it looks like, I would need to delete the information from the METAATTRIBUTES database, then the corresponding info from the METAOBJATTRRELATIONS and the METAOBJRELATIONS databases.  To remove each device's inventory, I'd then need to delete all the items in UNMODELEDDATA that corresponds to that data.  Am I correct in all this?  Is there anything more or less I would need to do.  If there is already a post/doc on this subject, feel free to point me in that direction.  I'm using LD9.0 with MS SQL Express.

Need to remove Device Name field

Since our computers' device name fields are not dependably accurate (they are filled in by humans afterall), we need to display the system tag that is reported by the BIOS instead of the OS. But, not only can we not remove the Device Name column, we can't even move it to the end position so that we can ignore it more.

What can we tweak to get rid of this useless field?

Examples why it's useless: when we use an image, often the tags remain the imaged tag number, because the tech forgets to check the old tag and enter that in instead, creating duplicate tags. Also, some techs are putting a "d" at the beginning of the tag and others start at the first number in the tag -- so again, not accurate because it's not consistent.

I have also noticed that the BIOS system tag field does not always populate (for about 10 of our 550 machines). Since they are all the same machine type I would expect them to behave the same, but they don't -- any thing I can check to see why?

We are using 9.5 SP0 and am i n Reporting/Monitoring - Manage Software List, I have just created a new Custom Data - Registry Item and need to make the Agents now report on this new item.  I'm on the Core and hit the toolbar button to "Make available to clients" but see no confirmation that this addition as been made.  Is there a way for me to know it's been added without having to check the LdAppl3.ini file each time?

Need Help Creating Query to Find Computers Without Updated Program

$

Hi everyone,

I'm fresh to operating LANdesk and myself and others in our staff are really racking our brains about how to resolve this. So, being a total n00b, I'll try to explain this as best possible. And please be simple in response! (Anyone have a LANdesk for dummies?)

I'm trying to create a query to find computers that do not have a specific version of a program installed. I figured the simple answer is to just use "not exist" and the title/version of the program I'm looking for.But that doesn't seem to work like that. I can't effectively do a search of all previous versions, because the program can run the new version with or without the old version. We need to find what PC's do not have the program installed so we can make sure to get the program pushed out or get to it by foot.

Thanks!

9.6SP1 Core - stale devices are not deleting from inventory

I have a few devices that I mark for deletion within LDMS. The way I understand this process is that I only mark it for deletion and then by default around 23:00 these are removed from the inventory. But when I come back the next day, I see the stale devices are still there.

In a computer's Software Inventory, what's the difference between...

I'm making a query to see what computers have a specific software installed to help with deployment verification.  And another to see which ones do not so we can schedule a deployment.  But I'm not quite sure what the difference between some of the categories in  Machine Component tree.  I'm using Landesk Management Console 9.6.0 without the Inventory add-on.

In Computer -> Software, what's the difference between..

Add or Remove programs -> Program

Package Manager -> Package

Product

Where does the inventory scanner find this information?

Right now I've used the GUID field in the Product category.  I've used "like" in the name fields in either Add or Remove programs -> Program or Product.  They seem at first glance to be the same.

Thank you.

inventaire sans agent + lddiscover

Bonjour,

CoreServeur : LDMS 8.8 SP3        Windows 2003 Entreprise

Bon courage, a celui qui pourra me repondre.

++

Cordialement

Jeremy

Problematic Scans - Event ID 4100 Database Exception

We're running 9.5 SP1 and I've got some problematic machines out there (Windows 7 PCs) that just aren't getting their scans processed correctly.  When I look in the error scans folder, sure enough, the failed scans for these PCs are in there.

I've turned on logging statistics and get the following error in the application log each time one of these machines is scanned:

Database exception: SCA4AE1.SCN, LDInv.dll

-2147467259

Data provider or other service returned an E_FAIL status.

Error comitting on table SERVICES:   DATA PROVIDER OR OTHER SERVICE RETURNED AN E_FAIL STATUS.

Anyone come across this before?

Inventory scan initiated from console

Question: is there a log entry anywhere on the core when you attempt an inventory scan by right clicking a system and selecting "Inventory scan" from the Management Suite console?   This started failing on me with an "HTTP status 401: Unauthorized" error on all scans initiated in this manner.  I just need a nudge in the right direction to troubleshoot this.  Any advice is appreciated.

Query for different versions of Internet Explorer

$

I've read the past threads on this, what few there were, but was unable to locate an answer that worked.

When I attempt to query for IE versions, Utilizing the Custom Data, or the Product/Name functions, I get a jumbled response.  It brings back pretty much everything in the computer software inventory.

I need to be able to differiniate between IE 7 and IE 8 but can not get it to run correctly and bring back what i am asking it for.  I can get it to bring back 8 only. but not 7 and 8 nor, more perfably, everything but 8.

After establishing the quert to bring back the above, I would tack on it further statements that will bring it back for a particular subnet as well.  I've managed to do this for other programs, such as Lotus and Adobe, but IE isnt' performing the same... I must assume this is because it's imbedded into the OS correct?

Thanks for any help you can provide scripting the correct logic for this function.

the renovation of the base of inventory does not occur

Good day.

You will excuse, my language am limited.

My problem: the  "inventory scan" worked is not correct.

Starting from the console of "inventory scan" causes appearance in the window of " Alert History" message about the error.

"LDISCN32: Error in secure data transport"

The same error returns start string "LDISCN32.EXE /L /F /SYNC /V "   at the working station.

First time "inventory scan" sometimes passes normally. Subsequently workstation data do not change.

Another time the data about the station are minimum (TCP/IP address, ComputerName and 4-5 fields) and also they do not change

Core Server: Win2003En,  LDMS 8.7 SP6 (Firewall: Off)

WS:  WinXP SP2 (Firewall: Off)

Hello everyone,

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem before?  I'd like to collect some custom registry data however the option to make the policies available to clients is disabled.  I can't find a way to enable this.  Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Get Windows Scheduled Tasks in Inventory

Has anyone come up with a solution for getting the Windows Scheduled Tasks in Inventory?  I am pretty sure it could be done with the combination of ldscnhlp.ini, schtasks.exe, and some script to generate a data file in the format LANDesk understands.  Before I tackle this, I thought it would be good to check if anyone has already done it.
