Can I create just Custom Data Form fields at the inventory without asking user to input the answer?

Dear All,

Can I create just Custom Data Form fields at the inventory without asking user to input the answer?

What I would like to do is just to create those additional attribute at the inventory of the machine and have the LDMS admin input it instead of asking the users to do so. It is because I would like to store purchasing information which is not avilable to the end users. And at the same time, those purchasing information cannot be detected from the machines itself too.

Thanks and regards,

Winnie

Default Network Printer

Hi there,

since Landesk 8.7 we miss our network printers in the inventory. Every network printer on the client is mapped through an UNC path like \\serverdc01\printer001.

In the past we could see the default printer and all the network printers. But now in 8.8 and former in 8.7 we could not see the printers.

The printers came to the inventory by Landesk. We had no registry key or soemthing else for the printers. What we modified in the ldappl3.ini are only a few registry settings to get more data.

Has anyone an idea?

Clients not reporting Inventory Scans

Ok so I have a wierd little problem with LDMS 9.0SP2. A number of client machines are failing to report back to the inventory server correctly. Machines are powered on and running Security scans fine, but the inventory doesn't update. For example, it is showing machine with Last Startup Time of over 3 months ago. I know these machines have been restarted multiple times since then, but I can not get them to refresh their inventory. I have forced inventory scans, updated agents, but nothing seems to work. There is also a couple hundred machines that have little or no inventory data. Why is this happening and how can I fix this?

Having machines that dont report their inventory correctly makes LDMS pretty useless, so your help is much appreciated. Thanks.

LDISCN32.exe

Hi

Apologies for what might be a very simple question...

I am having issues with a number of devices not updating in the inventory. I have tried running a manual run of of LDISCN32.exe with the switches /F /L /V (i a have also tried various other swithces) but i can see no evidence of a log file or error report? also I can see no evidence of the scan file being passed back to the server. I am sure I'm just not looking in the right plave for error logging?

On a seperate note these devices do not apply policy, when process runs it identifies a policy is required but does not execute its application. See attached image.

GatherProducts.exe High CPU Utilization and Run Time

Has anyone else seen the GatherProducts.exe process run at an average of 45-50% cpu utilization and/or take 25 minutes to run? The gatherproducts.exe log takes about 3 seconds to get to 'Initializing MSI DB', 25 minutes to get to 'Finished initializing MSI DB' and 15 seconds to complete. We are currently a new install of LFMS 9.0 SP3. Any insight is appreciated.

Inventory scan isn't updating Custom Data values

Last week I added some Custom Data fields (registry values for Java Update info).  After the inventory scan, the values showed up for the machines (JavaRT & Policy)

Untitled.png

Over the weekend I ran a job to update the registry enties to what we require and inventory got updated as picture above.   However, upon reboot, the registry entries reset to the original values (that;s a different can of worms).

The Inventory has not reverted even with a FULL SYCN SCAN.   If I use REGEDIT on the machine the values are different then the LDMS Inventory.

At this point I can't trust the Custom Data I have in inventory.

How can I get this corrected?

I'm running LDMS 9.0, SP3.

Thanks for your help.

Network printer not found

Hi All,

We are using LANDesk 9.0 sp2, and found that only network printer is not shown on the inventory list. Therefore we try to locate the network printer on client's registry and collect it manually by LDAppl3.

Unfortunatelly, the registry key of the network printer is located in the non-standard folder name. e.g. printer001, printerabc and so on.

Any other way to get the network printer inventory instead of LDAppl3? It is a tough job to find out all of the registry folder over 1500 agent machines.

Suspending Scans for a period of time

Hello All,

I have recently become an administrator over my companies LANDesk environment.  I'm looking to see if there is a way to stop all scans for a group of computers for a brief period of time within the 9.0 SP2 environment.

I have a high volume of network traffic hitting a specific group of computers which will be maximizing local resources.  During this time I would like to suspend any LANDesk related scans (be it vuln or inventory scans, etc.) and am not sure how to go about doing this.

Can anyone recommend a particular section within the manual or any articles regarding this subject matter?  I'm having no luck finding the information myself.

Thanks in advance.

Machines not updating their IP address in inventory

Machines are not updating their IP address, so when I go to remote, scan inventory, etc The task is performed on the wrong machine (the one that really has that ip address). How do I get it to either update it's ip address or use the computer name to base tasks on?

List of LDMS Public Variables

Is there a list of public variables I can use in LDMS scripts?  Like the %LDMS_CLIENT_DIR%, %CUSTJOBHOSTIP%, etc.? I'm just trying a very simple script to copy the invdelta.dat file to my location for review.  Script works fine but it's statis.  I need a variable for Device ID.  IP works, but if I could neaten it up a bit with host name and just to have them for future reference... Thanks!! [MACHINES_NT] REMCOPY0=C:\%CUSTJOBHOSTIP%.txt, %LDMS_CLIENT_DIR%\data\invdelta.dat, FROMREMOTE

IP address updates

Some of my assests do not automatically update with a new IP address when they have been off the network past their IP address lease expiry time. When this happens the device appears to be online but when you connect to it the following message appears:

The IP address of the computer you are attempting to control does not match the IP name on your network.  Do you want to continue? Yes or No.  If you click Yes this will connect to adifferent machine.

Is there a way to control this?

Basic questions about Rollup Cores and Core Server DB Setup

$

We currently have our Core server and a newly installed Rollup Core.  In order to gather data and report on both do we need yet another (3rd) DB setup or can the Core Server act as the Rollup Core's destination?

The two possibilities I see:

1.  Both servers need to be flagged as Rollup Cores and the data will be put into a 3rd DB that we would need to create.

2.  Server #1 acts as the destination and the the new server transfers it's data to the pre-existing Core server.

Which is the proper solution?

Thank you.

Clients 'Last Updated by Inventory Server' is not current

Guys,

I'm concerned about the state of our Landesk installation. I have sorted our client list by 'Last Updated by Inventory Server' and a lot of them are upto 3 months old.

I have confirmed that the clients are online and have landesk installed.

Can anyone tell me whats going on here? It's alarming that this has happened and I am starting to wonder if that invalidates our entire software management procedure.

Can anyone explain also why last updated by inventory server differs from last hardware scan date and last software scan date?

Hardware Inventory Report

Is there a way to run a report or extract what hardware is on a computer so i can use it for inventory? This will only be the basic inventory of a machine: OS, CPU, CPU speed, RAM, HDD size, NIC.

Thanks

Custom data from ldappl3.template not accessible in Management Console

$

I'm attempting to pull in custom information from the registry on remote computers using ldappl3.template on v9.0.0.473.  I went in and added the following:

KEY=HKCU,Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page,Custom Data - Internet Explorer - Start Page

I then went to Reporting / Monitoring / Manage Software List and clicked on "Make Available to Clients".  On my test machine, I went in to the Inventory Scan and appended "/F /SYNC" to the end and ran the Inventory Scan.  I checked the local ldappl3.ini files to make sure they reflected what the template file said, and it did.  However, when I go to the Management Console and try to access the custom variables, they are not there.  I thought it might be because I was attempting to access HKCU, so I just changed "Custom Data - Internet Explorer - Start Page" to "Custom Data - Internet Explorer - Version" (because this variable already existed on the Management Console), and it pulled the IE Start Page just fine.

Going to Configure > Inventory History, it looks like I can only pull variables that exist in this list.  How do I get it to update this information to reflect the custom information?

How to force an inventory scan on PC's which have been off for many weeks?

$

Here is my dilemma.  I have 5000 PC’s, which for the most part have been off for roughly 70 days.  Now that they are being turned back on, the IP addresses of the PC’s are not matching what’s in LANDesk.  Therefore, packages fail when being pushed out (a different agent responded).  To make this situation a bit crazier and because of login slowness, the inventory scan was removed from startup.  So, the only way to run an inventory scan is manually or if I am thinking correctly by re-pushing the client to all computers.

My question is.  Is there a way to simple force a scan on all computers, regardless if their IP address matches?   Perhaps using agent discovery?

Thanks

How to get "out of control" clients back in LANDesk

I have recently taken over LANDesk at my new company and it's a mess and not set up properly. Many things were not set up properly but I've just upgraded to 9.5 and I am trying to find and fix all of the problems. The main one to note was that the clients were refering to the core's hostname, not the FQDN. I have changed this, but still can't get clients to scan. We also have a Management Gateway, which I believe is set up properly now. 90% of our machines are remote and most will never connect directly to the network or VPN in. I've rebuilt the agent using ConfigureBroker.exe, tried to manually runs scans with the following command

"%ProgramFiles(x86)%\LANDesk\LDClient\LDISCN32.EXE"/NTT=<core's FQDN>:5007 /S=<core's FQDN> /I=HTTP://<core's FQDN>/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz /V /f /sync

Nothing I seem to do works. I have a laptop at home that is currently not in Inventory (was set to remove entries older than 30 days, I have also changed this to not happen), I've tried to manually run BrokerConfig, reinstalled my new agent, manually run scans. Nothing I seem to do works, and I need to find a way to get about 300 computers back into inventory. Can anyone help me out? I'm out of ideas.

Thanks

Problematic Scans - Event ID 4100 Database Exception

We're running 9.5 SP1 and I've got some problematic machines out there (Windows 7 PCs) that just aren't getting their scans processed correctly.  When I look in the error scans folder, sure enough, the failed scans for these PCs are in there.

I've turned on logging statistics and get the following error in the application log each time one of these machines is scanned:

Database exception: SCA4AE1.SCN, LDInv.dll

-2147467259

Data provider or other service returned an E_FAIL status.

Error comitting on table SERVICES:   DATA PROVIDER OR OTHER SERVICE RETURNED AN E_FAIL STATUS.

Increased column size might be necessary, Thread ID: 4692.

Anyone come across this before?

How do I use a sql query as landesk query?

$

Hi,

I would like to create LANDesk queries based on information from a different SQL Database. The SQL Query works after configuring linked server in SQL and so on.

In this Doc http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-5789 it's mentioned how it's possible to view SQL statements from Queries created through LANDesk. It also mentions that you can't just change the 'QuerySQL' Filed with a random query (I missed that part when I first read it) but there's got to be a way.

Has anybody done it?
