Multiple IPs bound to one NIC

Is it possible for the LDMS 9.0 inventory to record multiple IP addresses bound to one NIC?

Inventory History - Recent user list, login logout.

I know LDMS stores the most recent top X logged in users to estimate the primary owner. It's been a while since I've had to fiddle with this.. Anyhow, on to the question: I need to keep track of all login and log out times. (at least login).

I currently have Invenotry History set with a check in the box to track login name. I had only the Event viewer one checked at first and I found it to be inaccurate. Now, I've checked Inventory as well. I read the help file but I am unable to figure out where this is logged? What is the best way to track user login and (hopefully) logout times?. Why cant I find any information in inventory since I checked the box? Also it would be nice to even track locking the PC.

I know this is tracked in Power Management. Ultimately, I am looking to see what times users logged in to their PC, Locked their PC, and/or logged out of their PC? Any suggestions?

Oh, and since I know LDMS monitors and evaluates the last X logins to establish the primary user, is there anywhere I can VIEW these last x logon names? (and dates)

Thanks all. Rich S.

When I create a query that contains First Name, Last Name and Full Name, the Full Name column is empty but the are values for First Name and Last Name. Do someone knows how to resolve this issue?

Add registry info via a custom script??

I'm trying to create a custom script to add a registry entry to the RunOnce key. The problem I'm having is the amount of quotes I require in order for it to run properly. No matter what combination of quotes I use, whether it be <qt/> or ", I don't get the end result I need, which is an entry in the RunOnce key that looks like this: "C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\miniscan.exe" "/send= Custom Data - Lock Status = Unknown".

Here's the script:

[MACHINES]
REMEXEC0=C:\Windows\System32\reg.exe add HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce /v MiniScan /t REG_SZ /d <qt/>C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\miniscan.exe<qt/> "/send= Custom Data - Lock Status = Unknown", SYNC

Uninstallation Reporting Issue

Hi all,

Need the help on inventory issue - if a software is uninstalled from Physical Client machines and I try to pull the report, I get into report that software exist on Client machines. Infact I have uninstalled the software. Can anybody help me on how the LDMS keep track of the Uninstalled software data or fetch the data for it to maintain the record, is this in registry or Add & Remove of client or elsewhere. Please share the valuable guess.

Thanks in advance....

Inventory scan taking 30+minutes with RODC

$

We have a few remote sites with RODC (read only domain controllers). The problem seems to be where the inventory scan uses LDAPWHOAMI.EXE to interrogate the domain for user information to include in the inventory. LDPAWHOAMI normally takes a few seconds to run depending on the size of the domain but runs for at least 30 minutes whilst trying to communicate with a RODC before timing out and finding another domain controller to return the information requested. If it was just the inventory scan this would not be such a problem but the knock-on effect when provisioning machines or installing software with a scan after is significant.

Is there any fix or workaround for this?

Is there a switch to skip the LDAP part of the inventory scan?

LDISCN32.exe

Hi

Apologies for what might be a very simple question...

I am having issues with a number of devices not updating in the inventory. I have tried running a manual run of of LDISCN32.exe with the switches /F /L /V (i a have also tried various other swithces) but i can see no evidence of a log file or error report? also I can see no evidence of the scan file being passed back to the server. I am sure I'm just not looking in the right plave for error logging?

On a seperate note these devices do not apply policy, when process runs it identifies a policy is required but does not execute its application. See attached image.

How to force an inventory scan on PC's which have been off for many weeks?

Here is my dilemma. I have 5000 PC’s, which for the most part have been off for roughly 70 days. Now that they are being turned back on, the IP addresses of the PC’s are not matching what’s in LANDesk. Therefore, packages fail when being pushed out (a different agent responded). To make this situation a bit crazier and because of login slowness, the inventory scan was removed from startup. So, the only way to run an inventory scan is manually or if I am thinking correctly by re-pushing the client to all computers.

My question is. Is there a way to simple force a scan on all computers, regardless if their IP address matches? Perhaps using agent discovery?

Thanks

GatherProducts.exe High CPU Utilization and Run Time

Has anyone else seen the GatherProducts.exe process run at an average of 45-50% cpu utilization and/or take 25 minutes to run? The gatherproducts.exe log takes about 3 seconds to get to 'Initializing MSI DB', 25 minutes to get to 'Finished initializing MSI DB' and 15 seconds to complete. We are currently a new install of LFMS 9.0 SP3. Any insight is appreciated.

Date format in LDMS inventory

I'm trying to find out if there is a way to easily convert the date format in LDMS (Version 9 SP3) inventory data from USA date to UK date ie from mm/dd/yyyy to dd/mm/yyyy.

I do quite a few reports by creating custom queries in LDMS and Exporting as CSV, and Excel (in UK installation) doesn't like some of the dates in the exported CSV but does like others. IE excel doesn't like 03/19/2012 as it think its the 3rd day of the 19th month, but it does like 12/01/2012 which it thinks is 12th of Jan but its really 1st or Dec.

From what i can see in the inventory all dates are stored as USA date format, so im guessing maybe there is a simple setting somewhere to change the date to a more Excel firendly UK format?

Client Inventory Scan Settings

Hi,

I need some help/clarification in regards to the Run Inventory Scan settings on my clients. My clients are currently setup to run Event Driven scans everytime a user log ins or if an IP address changes(because we use DHCP) and I just recently found out that for some reason there is a Scheduled-Driven scan launched everyday at 8:30 am. Am I correct in my thinking that if I have a user that logs in at 7:30 a scan is sent and then that same user/machine sends another scan at 8:30? We have the at log in option selected because we are a school district and have a high amount of student machines and we want to keep track of what user is logged on to those machines realtime or as close as possible. Am I correct in my thinking that each time a student logs on to a mahcine an inventory scan is sent with their login information?

Thanks,

Megan

MINISCAN.EXE command switches and additional documentation

$

Hi folks - in response to the document posted here about MINISCAN and /send, does anyone have any additional information or reference about these switches?

" As of LDMS 8.7, we can send custom data with a miniscan for a Windows client.

The format for this scan is;

"c:\program files\landesk\ldclient\miniscan.exe" "/send=Custom Data - Logged On = Yes"

Where "/send=" is the switch to let miniscan.exe know to include the data that follows in the minscan file. It is important to include the quotes "/send" for the command to work.

The rest of the command line follows the rules for custom data. Remember, this is a snippet of information only, up to 255 characters. "

Thanks!

Is there a way to query a file with a specific hash key ?

We have packged an application using another packaging utillity. This utillity redirects the application to a key server. We are trying to find which customers have these "Keyed" applications and schedule an uninstall. I was able to download an application that showed me the hash file values and I know they are different from the original and consistent across the board.

I would like to Scan all the PC's for the executable file with the exact hash key for the keyed version. Is there anyway to accomplish this?

Inventory missing some items

LD 9.5 no SP1

As I look through my Console I keep seeing computers (small percentage) that have certain things missing for instance the model number, or windows version, provisioned column blank, etc and everything else is there.

When I look in inventory these items are missing from there.

1. In troubleshooting I deleted the test computer from the console then ran a full inventory scan, didn't help

2. went into \program files\landesk\ldclient\data and deleted the LDAPPL3.ini file and ran a full inventory scan, didn't help.

3. Did a remoteregistry and deleted the Landesk unique ID in both places, then ran a full scan, didn't help

Also all these computers have the same os (win 7 32bit), same model, as computers that are fine.

Any suggestions?

Inventory Scans not processing after upgrade from 9.0 SP4 to 9.5 SP2

After upgrading from 9.0 SP4 to 9.5 SP2 our processing of inventory scans has slowed down to almost nothing. Restarting the inventory service will give a momentary jump to it but then it slows down again. I have tried messing with the settings in the Configure->Services section but nothing appears to make a difference.

Both the resource monitors on the core server and database server are showing hardly any load. Right now the ldscan folder is 2K scans and 5 hours behind which we obviously won't be able to accept. At the moment the client agents themselves are still running 9.0 SP4 agents but I wouldn't think this would make a difference.

Anybody have suggestions?

Device not showing discovery status

Hoping someone can help me figure this one out. I have a device, my PC, that I have lost 'connectivity' to from within the console. The inventory and security scans are processing whenever they're run but when the discovery is done to see if it's connected or not, it flashes the blue "?" mark and then never returns the status.

I've tried removing the agent completely and re-isntalling several times. I've turned the firewall off to see if something happened there. Update the NIC drivers. Made sure the "NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users" is in the "Users" group and that the our Scheduler account is in the Administrators group...just in case. I've deleted the device from Inventory and ran full scans and made sure everything populated. I can ping the PC from the core and other PCs.

Any thoughts? What am I missing? Nothing has changed...at least that I'm aware of.

Thanks,

Scott

Cant see a device in all devices

Hi Guys,

I installed new 9.5 core server and now im trying to migrate clients from old 9.0 core server to it.

Im redeploying agents from new core server to all devices. So far everything worked like charm.

Now I found a device that I sucessfully deployed agent to but that device do not apear in all devices list.

Im able to connect to it using remote control.

I was also able to run manual security and inventory scan from the device. I saw that this device was communicating with right core during this scan but It didnt apear in the list.

(no error on client during scan)

I tired to completely remove - reinstall the agent but behaviour of this device is still the same.

Core server and the device are on the same network. All firewalls are dissabled.

Does anyone have an idea what might be the problem ?

Thanks

Inventory Service Crashing

$

The Inventory Service on our Core server is crashing every couple of weeks or so. I checked the error log and there is a set of reoccuring errors being reported by the Inventory Service within a minute of each other before the crash:

First error: "the size of AppSoftwareSuites.PRODUCTID is too small, increase its size by at least 10."

Second error: "Database exception:

SCA8EE9.SCN

LDInv.dll

-2147217887

Multiple-step operation generated errors. Check each status value.

Update Table:AppSoftwareSuites Column:PRODUCTID PK:Easy Grade Pro

Thread ID: 12576."

Third error: "Could not read the metaschema. Make sure the database is a valid LANDesk 7.5 or greater version."

Fourth error: "Database exception: ."

The third and fourth errors occur less frequently then the first two, which occur quite often without causing a crash. However, the group of four errors often occur all within the same minute of each other before the Inventory Service crashes.

It appears that every time the third and fourth errors occur, the Inventory Scanner on the Core server reports: "LDIScn32: The inventory server OTSCYLANDESK did not respond.". Clients can not send in inventory scans until the service is started again manually. I have already set the service to restart on every failure (Computer Management>Services>LANDesk Inventory Service). I have also set configure>Inventory>Advanced Settings>set "DB Error Recovery" to "10000". After restarting the service manually, the service runs for a week or two and then crashes again.

I have also seen at least one occasion where the last error reported by the Inventory Service says "Out of memory". The server has 3.5GB of memory.

I should mention that we are currently getting approx. 1500 rejected delta scans due to Deepfreeze being on half of our computing environment. We have not yet turned off Delta scanning as we are going to try to resolve the issue without turning off Delta scanning. Every other day or so, I empty the ErrorScan folder on the Core server. Could this be causing the problem?

Thanks,

Dan

Inventory Scan Error: The System Connot find the path Specified

$

I am having some issue with the Inventory Scan function of a few devices (All servers).

Since the Agent has been deployed I have been unable get a full scan to complete, whether initiated from the Client or the Core.

When initiated from the client scan seems to bomb out part way through scanning the Hardware. When intiated from the Core the scan fails with the error 'The Sytem cannot find the path Specified'.

I have tried to force a full scan & sync (Using the /F /SYNC switches) but the same issue.

Having searched all through the logs on both the server and client I am unable to determine exactly what it is failing on. Please can someone point me towards the correct logs that would help me diagnose this better as it is starting to drive me crazy.

Thanks,
