2014 Lenovo Battery Recall - using LDMS to determine affected systems

$

Hi all,

Is anyone aware of how LDMS can be used to determine if the batteries in a laptop at the time of inventory are part of the newest Lenovo battery recall?

I seem to remember that during the previous battery recall, there was a utility that allowed reporting from within LDMS, perhaps I'm not remember correctly.

Thanks

Remove LANDesk computer objects

I am working on trying to ensure my LANDesk database stays in sync with my Active Directory computer objects. Currently our process for retiring machines requires the technicians to delete the Active Directory computer object, and then go into LANDesk and remove the associated computer object.

I know that you can set the server to automatically delete objects after x days, but due to our installation being very new and our management gateway not being completely configured, we don't want to delete LANDesk computer objects that might still be active machines, but just don't connect to our VPN consistently enough to do an inventory scan.

Is possible that when we delete the active directory object, that a maintenance task simply scans Active Directory to retrieve the current list of computers, then compares it to the inventories in the database and deletes machines that don't have an Active Directory computer object? I am guessing that a script would work for this task, but if it is possible without having to script something, that would be even better.

Last Software Scan Date is NOT updating

$

I have an issue where several thousand machines are not updating their Last Software Scan Date value after a full scan is performed.

Using a LANDesk script to force a full scan, the following command runs:

REMEXEC1=<qt/>%LDMS_CLIENT_DIR%\LDISCN32.EXE<qt/> /NTT=%server%:5007 /S="%server%" /I=HTTP://%server%/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz /NOUI /NOCD /F /SYNC

On almost 4000 machines, 3500 report as successfully scanned.

When I run a report or a query on LAST Software Scan Date - the date does not change and remains between 10 and 30 days ago. Other "Last scanned" fields update with the current date.

1. Why is this date field not updating?

2. Can I be reasonably sure that Software scans are not occuring?

3. What can I do to make sure that software scans are occuring and that the date field gets updated?

What are they different among "Add-Remove programs", "Packages", and "Products"?

Hi All,

Why are they different among "Add-Remove programs", "Packages", and "Products"?

Recently, I found that a SW has been uninstalled and still showed in "product" view in its own inventory tree list. However, it is dispeared in the tree of "Add-Remove programs". Why? Can it be fixed?

Thanks.

Dbrepair error

Hi,

When I launch dbrepair on my core server (w2008 R2 SP1), I can see this :

Capture.JPG

I would like to delete everything under "Computer" because every custom data beneath don't show up in my inventory. (See my first post)

The only data that I can clean without problem is what I have under the first branch "Ordinateur".

For the rest I have an error :

"The object reference is not set to an instance of the object"

What does that mean?

Thanks

Hi team,

I have  lots of  "SC****.tmp"  files in my Ldscan folder, some going back quite sometime,

What are the tmp files doing there?

How did they get in there?

I've been looking and can't find anything about them

I think i need to delete them,but thought it would be wise to ask if anybody has come across these tmp file first

Add registry info via a custom script??

I'm trying to create a custom script to add a registry entry to the RunOnce key. The problem I'm having is the amount of quotes I require in order for it to run properly. No matter what combination of quotes I use, whether it be <qt/> or ", I don't get the end result I need, which is an entry in the RunOnce key that looks like this: "C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\miniscan.exe" "/send= Custom Data - Lock Status = Unknown".

Here's the script:

[MACHINES]
REMEXEC0=C:\Windows\System32\reg.exe add HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce /v MiniScan /t REG_SZ /d <qt/>C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\miniscan.exe<qt/> "/send= Custom Data - Lock Status = Unknown", SYNC

more XXX.scan files in the C:\Program Files\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\ldscan folder.

and the inventory service start.

SSID in Inventory?

Does anyone know of a way to capture in inventory the SSID a computer is connected to?

Where is the version of Internet Explorer reported.

We just upgraded ot LDMS version 9.5.  In LDMS 9.0 I could find the version of IE on each machine querying Inventory, Custom Data, Internet Explorer.

Any idea how to query IE versions in 9.5?

"Last Updated By Inventory" Date Not Updating

I've been running into devices that show they are online and remote capable but the "Last Updated by Inventory" date is several days old.  I've even remotely kicked off a full sync scan that finishes but the date does not change.

Anyone know why this happens?

Thanks,

Performance Issue on clients 8.80

Hello,

We have a client who use LDMS 8.80 and who have performance issue with agents deployed.

Agents slowed considerably laptops.

It was found that during an increase in load, only LANDesk and F-Secure processes increase.

There is only one scheduled task that is running the inventory daily.

I wanted to know if there was a customization to do when using the LANDesk agentand the agent F-Secure?

Or if the performance problem was known that it is corrected when migrating to version 9.0 SP2?

Thank you for your feedback.

Windows 7 Recovery Mode state

$

0

I am looking for suggestions on ways to detect whether or not the Windows 7 Recovery mode is enabled or not.  I know that that the value is visable when running bcdedit from a command line.

Example:

Windows Boot Manager

--------------------

identifier              {bootmgr}

device                  partition=\Device\HarddiskVolume1

description             Windows Boot Manager

locale                  en-US

inherit                 {globalsettings}

default                 {current}

resumeobject            {7de57afb-4d33-11e1-91e0-cc0b1e2eb48f}

displayorder            {current}

toolsdisplayorder       {memdiag}

timeout                 30

Windows Boot Loader

-------------------

identifier              {current}

device                  partition=C:

path                    \Windows\system32\winload.exe

description             Windows 7

locale                  en-US

inherit                 {bootloadersettings}

recoverysequence        {7de57afd-4d33-11e1-91e0-cc0b1e2eb48f}

recoveryenabled         No

osdevice                partition=C:

systemroot              \Windows

resumeobject            {7de57afb-4d33-11e1-91e0-cc0b1e2eb48f}

nx                      OptIn

The recoveryenable is set to no on this machine.   I have also found that it is available at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\BCD00000000\Objects\{f436d655-3fc7-11e2-bca2-b51d8dbf124e}\Elements\16000009, with the value Element in the registry.   An enabled machine would have the value of  hex:01 in the 16000009.   This key can vary depending on the model of the device, but it is always the 16000009 value.  I tried putting it into the Manage Software List, Registry keys but so far it appears that maybe that landesk may not be able to read that key for whatever reason.    I just wanted to see if anyone had tried to detect this value and see what they had done.  Thank you in advance.

How does a client know about "Custom Data"

$
0
0

I would like to understand how the "Custom Data" in the inventory is setup on the client.

Here is what I see

Client is having problems, so we Reinstall the landesk Client.
This does not fix the users problem, so I run the Landesk Client uninstaller.
Reboot and reinstall the landesk client.

Now the client is working but is not reporting back "Custom Data" in the Inventory.
All other inventory is collected but not "Custom Data"

So how and what is updated on the client to know what "Custome Data" to send?
Is it a reg key or file? And If a client will not report back "Custome Data" what can you try on the client?

Get Windows Scheduled Tasks in Inventory

Has anyone come up with a solution for getting the Windows Scheduled Tasks in Inventory?  I am pretty sure it could be done with the combination of ldscnhlp.ini, schtasks.exe, and some script to generate a data file in the format LANDesk understands.  Before I tackle this, I thought it would be good to check if anyone has already done it.
