Inventory Scans Stopped Processing

The inventory scans stopped processing on several computers.  I noticed the D:\Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\ldscan directory is full of inventory scan files that have not processed since 5:45 AM this morning.  I have restarted the “LANDesk Inventory server” service and that did not seem to fix the issue.  I noticed the error below in the applications logs.  I was thinking about trying the recommendation in the following article. http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-2173

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Device not showing discovery status

Hoping someone can help me figure this one out.  I have a device, my PC, that I have lost 'connectivity' to from within the console.  The inventory and security scans are processing whenever they're run but when the discovery is done to see if it's connected or not, it flashes the blue "?" mark and then never returns the status.

I've tried removing the agent completely and re-isntalling several times.  I've turned the firewall off to see if something happened there.  Update the NIC drivers.  Made sure the "NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users" is in the "Users" group and that the our Scheduler account is in the Administrators group...just in case.  I've deleted the device from Inventory and ran full scans and made sure everything populated.  I can ping the PC from the core and other PCs.

Any thoughts?  What am I missing?  Nothing has changed...at least that I'm aware of.

Thanks,

Scott

Number and size of PST files

I found this on dropped packates but I think I am not doing it correctly; Help please.

I was able to copy the files to the client machine using a batch file. When I tried to execute Step # 2 using another batch file I got an error message stating under the result column "incorrect function"

How to find the number and size of PST files in the organization.

This script is an excellent example of how LANDesk Management Suite can be extended with VBSscript to gather and query just about any random chunk of data.

  1. Distribute the contents of findpst.zip to your client's c:\program files\landesk\ldclient directory (if that's not your %LDCLIENTDIR%, you'll want to edit these two files appropriately).

  2. Send a managed script to execute the script: REMEXEC00="wscript.exe C:\Progra~1\LANDesk\LDClient\FindPST.vbs", SYNC ought to do.

  3. Force an inventory scan.

  4. Query on machines where Custom Data - Total PST Size is larger than you like.

Since this is using an LDSCNHLP.INI extension, you'll want to manually edit that file if you plan on using findpst.vbs in addition to any other scripts that are launched from within that file.

Last Hardware/Software Scan Date

I am looking for some information on the "Last Hardware Scan Date", "Last Software Scan Date", " Last Updated by Inventory Server", and "Last Update Scan Date".

I need to know if the agent does a delta scan, and there are no changes in the hrdward or software, does either of these two dates get updated?

What is the "Last Update Scan Date" and "Last Updated by Inventory Server"?

I have some computers in inventory that have old hardware and software dates, but a receint Last Updated by Inventory Server date. I know that I can run a full inventory scan for clients that have older hardware/software scan dates, but ned to know what function/process updates the Last update scan date and last inventory server?

Thanks for any help you cangive me.

GatherProducts.exe High CPU Utilization and Run Time

Has anyone else seen the GatherProducts.exe process run at an average of 45-50% cpu utilization and/or take 25 minutes to run? The gatherproducts.exe log takes about 3 seconds to get to 'Initializing MSI DB', 25 minutes to get to 'Finished initializing MSI DB' and 15 seconds to complete. We are currently a new install of LFMS 9.0 SP3. Any insight is appreciated.

Inventory scan will not complete with Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 installed.

After completing our upgrade to LDMS 9.5 from 9.0 SP3 we are unable to successfully run LDISCN32.EXE with Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 installed on XP based machines, does not seem to be affecting Win7. The inventory scan hangs on the software and fails to close LDISCN32.EXE. If you uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection, the inventory scan completes without issues. We have turned off every option in Symantec but are unable to run an inventory scan with it installed.

View As Report/Export as CSV?

Hopefully someone can help me out with this.  It seems that in 9.5SP1 the ability to view as a report and export as a csv when viewing the inventory of a device is gone.  Am I missing something?  Below are screenshots from 9.0SP3 and 9.5SP1 of what I'm seeing when I right click an item (e.g. Program under software section).

Is the only way to determine the software installed on a device in report format through the "Installed programs" report in the Reports-->Standard reports-->Inventory toolbox?

Thanks,

Scott

Inventory Scans not processing after upgrade from 9.0 SP4 to 9.5 SP2

After upgrading from 9.0 SP4 to 9.5 SP2 our processing of inventory scans has slowed down to almost nothing.  Restarting the inventory service will give a momentary jump to it but then it slows down again.  I have tried messing with the settings in the Configure->Services section but nothing appears to make a difference.

Both the resource monitors on the core server and database server are showing hardly any load.  Right now the ldscan folder is 2K scans and 5 hours behind which we obviously won't be able to accept.  At the moment the client agents themselves are still running 9.0 SP4 agents but I wouldn't think this would make a difference.

Anybody have suggestions?

Screen resolution in inventory

Hello.

I'm working on an issue where I'd like to collect screen resolution information for several devices, but I quickly found that the "Video" -> "Resolution" data is very unreliable. In fact, almost all devices report a "1024 x 768" resolution which I know is incorrect.

Is it a known issue, or is there a way to get reliable data for this? Preferably a screen resolution value per connected monitor, but a correct resolution for the main monitor would be helpful as well.

We're using LD9.5 SP2.

Thanks in advance.

Is there a document explaining the command line switches for LDISCN32.exe?  I can do a "/?" but it doesn't explain what  "/O /T /Q" do.

Query is missing custom data fields

$

Hello,

we scan our clients for a specific registry key. This works good. When I look at the inventory of the clients I can see the key and its value.

But trying to create a query on this key fails. In the query window I cannot see this Custom Field. The Custom Data field is double and it contains only one value. But no Internet Explorer, no MDAC and not my custom field.

I want it back! Any ideas?

Thanks

Finding drive mappings

Has anyone got a decent, reliable method or script to detect all mapped drives?  I have the crude version below that works but reporting from this data collection isn't the easiest.

Since we're movng from Novell to AD, I need to filter out my Novell mappings and only report on the non-Novell mappings.  I currently do this with an array of known Novell servers then searching their existence in the string of the found mappings, then liminating them.  Just looking for a better way.

Thanks in advance!

Query for different versions of Internet Explorer

I've read the past threads on this, what few there were, but was unable to locate an answer that worked.

When I attempt to query for IE versions, Utilizing the Custom Data, or the Product/Name functions, I get a jumbled response.  It brings back pretty much everything in the computer software inventory.

I need to be able to differiniate between IE 7 and IE 8 but can not get it to run correctly and bring back what i am asking it for.  I can get it to bring back 8 only. but not 7 and 8 nor, more perfably, everything but 8.

After establishing the quert to bring back the above, I would tack on it further statements that will bring it back for a particular subnet as well.  I've managed to do this for other programs, such as Lotus and Adobe, but IE isnt' performing the same... I must assume this is because it's imbedded into the OS correct?

Thanks for any help you can provide scripting the correct logic for this function.

Inventory scan isn't updating Custom Data values

$

Last week I added some Custom Data fields (registry values for Java Update info).  After the inventory scan, the values showed up for the machines (JavaRT & Policy)

Untitled.png

Over the weekend I ran a job to update the registry enties to what we require and inventory got updated as picture above.   However, upon reboot, the registry entries reset to the original values (that;s a different can of worms).

The Inventory has not reverted even with a FULL SYCN SCAN.   If I use REGEDIT on the machine the values are different then the LDMS Inventory.

At this point I can't trust the Custom Data I have in inventory.

How can I get this corrected?

I'm running LDMS 9.0, SP3.

Thanks for your help.

Add custom data to inventory

Hello all,

I know this has been discussed to some extent already, but what I am trying to do seems to vary a bit from what others have wanted. Here is a brief overview of what I am trying to do.

My overall objective is to collect a list of trusted sites that a given user has entered into their IE settings on their machines.

From what I can see, the registry keys reside under here.  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\ZoneMap\Domains

So, I originally tried the LDMS client. It is great if I simply wanted to read actual values from a given key. The problem with it is that IE seems to generate subkeys with data contained within. So under the "domains" key it contains another key for "msn.com" "google.com" etc. (examples)

I then figured I need something to enumerate the keys contained within the domain key to grab all the data. I cannot see a built in feature to do that in the LDMS_client or in LANDesk, so I wrote a script to do so.

I have my script set to grab this data and throw it into a .dat file to look like this:

Internet Explorer - Trusted Sites - msn.com
Internet Explorer - Trusted Sites - google.com

I modeled it after how the "findpst" script that I think I found on droppedpackets.org generates the data. When I run that, it creates a "email" sub category and data within from a dat file modeled like this:

Email - PST Files - Personal Folders(1) - File Location = c:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\personal folders(1).pst

For some reason, when I run mine though, the inventory scanner comes up with an error "invalid data"

Here are my questions,

1. is there something I am missing with the above method to get this data entered into inventory?

2. Is there a better way that you guys might know of to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Unable to issue remote inventory scan from LANDesk core server

If I run an inventory scan straight from the client machine to the server (Start > All Programs > LANDesk Management > Inventory Scan) the scan will run successfully, updating the database. Now if I log into the management console on the server, find that machine, right click it, and choose Inventory Scan I receive the error message right away "The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occrred on a receive."

The same thing happens if I try to do a remote reboot or shutdown. I am able to remote control the machine so at least I am getting some sort of communication from the console to the machine in that regard.

Any ideas? I fix would be very much appreciated.

Query for Internet Explorer 9

Hello,

Not sure if I am missing something but when I create a query for Internet Explorer 9 I can't find an entry.  Also when I create one for IE8 I only get XP computers with IR installed.  I suspect this is because for 8, it's a core part of the Win 7 OS?

Any advice is appreciated.
