How to find if file is on computers (query question)

$

0

We have deep freeze installed on all our computers.

When installed, there is a C:\Persi0.sys file on the computer.

Long story short...not all computers are reporting into the Faronics console. Therefore, we want to run a query to find what computers have this file on them.

I am in console under Network View, server, Queries, My queries.

Computer, Software, Package, File Name = C:\Persi0.sys and it doesnt show any results

I saw this How to scan for a specific file in the Inventory

And noticed the Jan 23 post and it seems like they are asking the same thing as I.

Any ideas for a first time poster??

We are on Management Suite ver: 9.60.2.48

Video resolution modes

Is it possible to get the Inventory scanner to determine the resolution used on each monitor connected to an endpoint?

I can see a resolution object under Video but this just seems to return the default or recommended resolution for the adapter.

I can see multiple monitors listed connected to a device but there is not a resolution for each monitor.

I am guessing this can't be done but thought I would ask anyway.

Remote computer is not managed by...

I have at least one PC upon which LD could not install the agent.  I traced this down to a problem in DNS.  This has now been fixed ( two days ago ).  While the agent installation was successful, LD still isn't showing a normal inventory.  Just the computer name and the TCP/IP entry when you insert a computer manually.  I can ping the computer using either its name or address, from the core server.  No problem.  I can access the admin share from the core server, no problem.

-

Note that this one PC is the "Tablet" version of XP.  It's the only one we currently have.

-

I tried to connect with the Tablet version PC, but LD said: "The remote computer is not managed by your server.".

We have three (3) other PCs on which the agent is installed, but LD hasn't performed an inventory.  ( no inventory data available )

Any suggestions or just thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Security Update for Microsoft Windows not showing in inventory

I have a Window 10 client (1607) that has the patch for wannacrypt installed (KB4013429) along with a number of other patches.  KB4013429 was installed 4/5/2017.  However, inventory just shows 5 updates installed and KB4013429 is not one of them.  I'm trying to scan for how many machines are patched.  There are other machines that do report that patch installed.

I've tried running full sync scans from the console end, running inventory from the client end, re-installing the client, deleting the client from the console and again re-installing the client with the same results.  Inventory\Name\OS\Updates\updates still only shows 5 installed updates.

Last Software Scan Date and Last Updated by Inventory Scanner all show today's date and the time is just after client installation

LD version is 9.60.2.48

Patch was originally installed through our WSUS server

Add registry info via a custom script??

I'm trying to create a custom script to add a registry entry to the RunOnce key. The problem I'm having is the amount of quotes I require in order for it to run properly. No matter what combination of quotes I use, whether it be <qt/> or ", I don't get the end result I need, which is an entry in the RunOnce key that looks like this: "C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\miniscan.exe" "/send= Custom Data - Lock Status = Unknown".

Here's the script:

[MACHINES]
REMEXEC0=C:\Windows\System32\reg.exe add HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce /v MiniScan /t REG_SZ /d <qt/>C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\miniscan.exe<qt/> "/send= Custom Data - Lock Status = Unknown", SYNC

LDAPWHOAMI.EXE -- Bug in LANDesk 9.0 SP3 service???

$

We had a curious thing occur -- I will explain as best I can. Gradually, over the course of a few weeks, many but not all of our workstations (with users logged in) started hammering the hell out of the Domain Controllers in our environment. This resulted over time in bringing a number of them down and increasing congestion over the network. Turns out that ldapwhoami.exe was the culprit and it was repeatedly attempting, hundreds a second, to try to reach an AD OU. The process was running at 40% on the workstation. When the OU was created, apparently authenticated users did not have read or write permissions and it was felt that those rights were not necessary. Once they started dumping users into the OU and those users would log in, ldapwhoami.exe would try to update the inventory but it would fail at that OU and retry continuously (indefinitely). When we gave read permissions to the OU all of our problems went away.

Question is...Is this a bug or would this be attributed to normal behaviour? You would think that after a few failed attempts that ldapwhoami.exe would stop trying until the next inventory scan at least and not run continous on the machine.

Inventory Failing On 2016 Datacenter Servers: bCriticalError/LookupAccountName Failed '1332'

We're on LDMS 2016 SU4. I have inventory failing on two servers. The scans aren't making it into the ldscan folder on the core at all, so nothing is showing up for this server in the ErrorScan folder. Other servers on the same subnet scan in fine, and windows firewall is off (domain, private, and public) on this guy. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the agent, and I get a failure on the inventory scan portion of the agent installation (see below wscfg32 log). The OS on both of these is 2016 Server Datacenter, and these are the only two servers in our environment currently running this OS. Could this possibly be a compatibility issue?

Bitlocker Recovery Key in Inventory

Hi,

there is a Inventory Property - "Computer"."Mass Storage"."Drive Encryption"."Recovery Key"

2017-05-23 18_34_57-LANDESK® Management Console.png

Unfortunatelly the Inventory Information is not populated by the inventory scanner.

Some of the other informations are collected by the Scanner:

2017-05-23 18_36_34-Inventory - wuta-edv5761.png

So my question is, is there a build in support for reading out the Recovery Key to this Inventory field or do I have to run additional scripts for populating this Inventory Entry?

Thank you, Marco

IP / Name mismatch...DNS problem?

$

We're on LD v8.70.0.109.

The last several months it seems we've had problems with LD preforming an inventory scan.  Which, it appears, has been due to the Inventory service needing to be stopped and restarted.  ( The first time I did this, I bumped the retry value to as high as it would go, if I recall correctly. )

But one of the things I noticed back then, and see that we still have...is some sort of DNS issue.

I thought that DNS was supposed to be automatically updated.  Yet our DNS server has multiple computer names associated with one IP address.  Not every machine, mind you, but some.  Some have two (2), some have three (3), and at least one I just saw has four (4).

I also checked Reverse Lookup.  And the record that it had, had the correct computer name, with an address that didn't match ANY of the multiple address records.

Consequently...I'm really confused.

I went looking in this forum to see if anyone else was having a similar problem.  I found a discussion in Remote Control I believe it was, named: IP / Name mismatch.

One of the things mentioned was making sure that the "Register this connection's addresses in DNS" checkbox was checked in Advanced of the TCP/IP properties.  I myself have always made sure that this was checked, and have assumed that my co-workers have done likewise.  But because I saw it mentioned, I asked one of my co-workers.  He said that he always does on a server, but hasn't necessarily been doing so on a client, because..."It's supposed to do it automatically.".

The thread also mentioned about setting the agent to update the inventory db on an ip change, to keep the LD db current.  I've gone looking, but can't seem to find where I would do this in 8.7.  Perhaps it's only in 8.8?

Is there a way to write a script so I could easily check all of our clients to see if the update DNS box has been checked?  All these bad DNS entries have me really concerned.  How do I fix my DNS?

As usual, any thoughts, ideas, suggestions are welcome...thanks in advance.

Adding Folder Size to Inventory

Hi

We are in the preparatory stages of forcing a redirection of the local MyDocuments  folder for all domain clients to a nas. To get an idea

of impact on storage I want to be able to report on the amount of data which is likely to be moved.

What would be the best way to get the folder size for the MyDocuments folder for the Primary Owner of the device added to the inventory?

Thanks

inventaire sans agent + lddiscover

$

Bonjour,

Pour le compte d'un client, je dois effectuer un inventaire sans agent de son parc informatique. La premiere etape consiste a decouvrir les poste par le bias des peripherique non gerés UDD en specifiant les plages Ip à analyser.

Pour infos :

CoreServeur : LDMS 8.8 SP3        Windows 2003 Entreprise

Bon courage, a celui qui pourra me repondre. Je termine ma mission vendredi, j'espere avoir des news rapidement

++

Cordialement

Hello,

My company would like to use LANDesk for inventory.

We managed to get some Linux inventroy data into LANDesk.

I am now looking for a way to get information _out_ of LANDesk,

e.g. for our Wiki Engine were we document all of our servers.

Is there any kind of API where I can do queries ?

Like "list all linux server" or "display some attributes about machine called srv01" ?

Or is the only possible way to e.g. generated automated, sheduled

reports into a cvs file with all linux devices and the wanted attributes ?

Thanks

Jo

Last Software Scan Date is NOT updating

$

I have an issue where several thousand machines are not updating their Last Software Scan Date value after a full scan is performed.

Using a LANDesk script to force a full scan, the following command runs:

REMEXEC1=<qt/>%LDMS_CLIENT_DIR%\LDISCN32.EXE<qt/> /NTT=%server%:5007 /S="%server%" /I=HTTP://%server%/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz /NOUI /NOCD /F /SYNC

On almost 4000 machines, 3500 report as successfully scanned.

When I run a report or a query on LAST Software Scan Date - the date does not change and remains between 10 and 30 days ago. Other "Last scanned" fields update with the current date.

1. Why is this date field not updating?

2. Can I be reasonably sure that Software scans are not occuring?

3. What can I do to make sure that software scans are occuring and that the date field gets updated?

Custom data inventory not working

$

Hi,

We migrate from 9.0 sp3 to 9.5 a month ago. Prior to the migration we didn't have any problem with our custom data.

Last week, I found out that if I add a new custom data based on a registry key, it will not show up in the inventory. As I had a lot of old custom data, I decided to clean my base with dbrepair.exe...

Since then, 95% of my custom data (wich were perfectly working before) don't show up anymore. The other 5% are working perfectly, I can modify them, delete them and re-add them.

When I look at the ldappl3.ini file on a client, I found all my registry key referenced.

The option "Block Unknown Inventory Items" is not activate by default. I did try to activate it to see if it will populate the list of unknown items : that's not the case.

On one of our client, I run a full scan with the O switch. It collected all the custom data to the outpout file.

So it seems that inventory work fine, but the data won't get imported into the base.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Random Printout From Serial Thermal Printer

We are trying to troubleshoot why several of our computers with "SNBC BTP-2002NP" thermal receipt printers randomly print out PJL commands.  The printers are connected to  POS computers that connect to a terminal server.  The printer is not installed it is just connected to the com 2 port.  The POS software runs from the terminal server and prints to the com 2 port.  When this happens it causes the application to freeze up on the RD Web Windows Terminal Server for the individuals session.  Does anyone know how LANDesk polls for printers to add them to inventory?  Would LANDesk send the following commands to the com port during inventory to determine information?

Hi there,

We have a landesk device inventory of about 500 machines. As of yesterday the device list is now bare. When adding a bare metal machine to the list it immediately disappears when applying it.

My immediate though was perhaps the database became corrupt, but I am unsure.

Has anyone had a similar issue occur or know of what might cause something like this?

Thanks!

LDISCN32.EXE Times Out On Clients

$

0

We're on LANDesk 9 SP2 and I seem to have a problem lately where Inventory Scans are timing out on Windows XP client computers. I'm getting an error in the Application log on affected clients...

"Event ID 1002"

"Application Hang"

"Hanging application LDISCN32.EXE, version 9.0.2.120, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000."

We first noticed the problem because we use a command in our OS deployment process to send a full inventory scan after a machine is re-imaged. On some OS deployment jobs we started to see clients that would hang and never complete the Inventory Scan section of the script. I had to terminate the ldiscn32.exe process in Task Manager. If I run an Inventory Scan from the Start Menu shortcut I see that Hardware Inventory is complete, Software Inventory runs to about 80% on the progress bar and then just stays there, having processed around 37,400 files. (The actual number of files processed varies.)

I'm not sure how many of our client computers are affected, but I suspect it's quite a few because I see a number of inventory records that have not seen an updated software inventory in many weeks, even though the machines are connected to the network every day. I don't think it's a problem on the core because my ldscan folder is not filling up with SCN files, and some clients are sending inventory successfully.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
