Repeated database exceptions

$

Since our upgrade from 8.8 sp4 to 9.0 sp2 on 8/1/2011, I've been getting more and more database exceptions. (Right now about 75% of all scans fail, maybe more.) Errors in the app log as follows:

Event Type:    Error
Event Source:    LANDesk Inventory Server
Event Category:    None
Event ID:    4100
Date:        8/1/2011
Time:        11:34:23 AM
User:        N/A
Computer:    DNRATW-LD01
Description:
Database exception: SCA20E.SCN, LDInv.dll
-2146825023

Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.  Update Table:TCP Column:ADDRESS PK:, Thread ID: 5512.

(I also have a discussion in the Database section about this installation hammering Oracle - http://community.landesk.com/support/message/67323#67323 - which may be related.)

I've dug through here, deleted unmodeled data/ran coredbutil, reregistered ldinv.dll, to no avail. Can anyone shed some light on this? Or give me a good place to look for the cause of the problem? Every error is followed by a "successfully connected to the database" message. No other errors in there related to this that I can see...

System is Windows Server 2003 32-bit, Oracle 11gR2 database. Small setup - ~1000 devices, a dozen analysts.

Need help with a WMI query

Hi,

i'm trying to make a WMI query at the "inventory" - "user defined data". With WMI Explorer i got the following values:

Name Space: Root\CIMV2

Class: Win32_PnPEntity

Instance: KPCI-488 GPIB Interface

Caption: KPCI-488 GPIB Interface

In Landesk i have:

Name Space

Class Name

Display Object

Property Name

Display Name

Does anyone know where i have to insert the individual "WMI values" in the "Landesk Property box"? "Name Space" and "Class" is evident, but the remaining...

Many thanks for your help.

WMI item not being included in inventory scan

Hi,

I'm attempting to pull some WMI information into the inventory scan.  I setup the WMI item and hit the "Make available to clients" button and tried to test but nothing seems to happen...   Registry items are working but I had to enter those manually into the LdAppl3.ini to get them to work.  I'm guessing the WMI item I added should appear in the [WMI info] section of the LdAppl3.ini or am I missing something?

Can anyone offer a suggestion as to what might stop the Make available to clients button from updating LdAppl3.ini?

Thanks.

Lost contact (inventory scan)

Hi,

I have installed LDMS2016 on a Windows 2012 r2 server, I deployed the agent on this server. I ran an inventory scan but it say "lost contact". Do you have any idea ?

I believe I have a rogue database

$

So I recently install Ivanti Endpoint Manager 2017.1 on a server that previously hosted LANDesk Management Suite 2016, and while our SQL admin created the new database on a separate Virtual Hard Disk (which is still active and gets written to), I noticed a secondary database located on my Core OS drive (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA). The database is just named "LANDesk.mdf", but it's already reached 7GB in size. Both our SQL admin and myself are puzzled as to what this database if for, why it's being consistently updated, and what is updating it.

This is an issue, because it's draining my hard drive storage on the Core, and if it's constantly writing to it, then those are vital resources that are being utilized.

Does anyone know what this database may be utilized for? It can't be a remnant from LANDesk 2016, because that wouldn't explain why it's being constantly updated. Why would Ivanti be using both the configured database that's on a separate drive and this other database? More importantly, how do I rid myself of it safely (if I can)?

Since I couldn't find anything regarding "database" or "SQL" in the places, I'm taking a guess and placing it in the "Inventory" place.

about the inventory scan process

$

Dear all,

Could any one help me with the inventory scan process. I will appreciate if there is a "process diagram" of what steps or what tasks will be running on the LanDesk core and client.

I have all the day reading about it but I still have some questions and some difficult to finish the puzzle

First inventory scan on computer --> a scan file named  "invdelta.dat" will be created on C:\Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\LDClient\Data\. (I don't understand the role of LDAPPL3.ini file during software scans is it a configuration file for the SoftMon.exe tool or it will contain all identified software in the managed comptuter).

From now on, each time the LDISCN32.exe starts a new inventory scan, it will just update the already created file "invdelta.dat" . Now, I don't know if the tool "LDISCN32.exe" will detect if there are modifications in this file so it will send the scan file to the landesk core or it will send a scan file without checking. Does the scan file to send to LanDesk core will contain just modified data? and when it will be sended (Once the inventory scan is done or we can configure this parameter to be once a day).

Can I create just Custom Data Form fields at the inventory without asking user to input the answer?

Dear All,

Can I create just Custom Data Form fields at the inventory without asking user to input the answer?

What I would like to do is just to create those additional attribute at the inventory of the machine and have the LDMS admin input it instead of asking the users to do so. It is because I would like to store purchasing information which is not avilable to the end users. And at the same time, those purchasing information cannot be detected from the machines itself too.

Thanks and regards,

Find SQL Server installations

Hi,

We need to find how many installations of SQL Servers we have in the organization.

I have created a query to find the following:

Computer.Software.Add or remove Programs.Program.Name = Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or 2005 or 2008

Query returns all server have these installations but on many of them, there is no SQL Management studio installed but only the SQL tools.

For example, attached is a screenshot of a server that has only the SQL Server configuration manager installed but in the Add remove programs, the SQL Server 2008 R2 seems to be installed.

Is there any way to find what we want?

It is for licensing purposes in order to specify if there is need to purchace more SQL licenses.

Thanks in advance,

Nikos

Making custom data forms required

This is in reference to the posting by LD Support:

-

Created on: Nov 27, 2007 4:16 PM by LDSupport - Last Modified:  Dec 28, 2007 11:48 AM by LDSupport

How To:

Once the custom data form has been created and the clients configured to receive the custom data form and fill it in when the inventory scan runs, the LDSCHLP.INI needs to be have the /fe switch at the end of the launch statement in the section.

The LDSCNHLP.INI is found on the client PC at, C:\LCDLIENT

Example LDSCNHLP.INI:

LAUNCH1=C:\LDClient\LDCSTM32.EXE /fe

TIMEOUT1=600

DATA1=C:\LDClient\LDCUSTOM.DAT

-

Am I to understand that unless this mod is made, that the filling in of the form is merely "optional"?

( If you've seen my other postings, you've seen that I'm still trying to understand how this is supposed to work...AND...actually get it to work. )

Add registry info via a custom script??

I'm trying to create a custom script to add a registry entry to the RunOnce key. The problem I'm having is the amount of quotes I require in order for it to run properly. No matter what combination of quotes I use, whether it be <qt/> or ", I don't get the end result I need, which is an entry in the RunOnce key that looks like this: "C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\miniscan.exe" "/send= Custom Data - Lock Status = Unknown".

Here's the script:

[MACHINES]
REMEXEC0=C:\Windows\System32\reg.exe add HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce /v MiniScan /t REG_SZ /d <qt/>C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\miniscan.exe<qt/> "/send= Custom Data - Lock Status = Unknown", SYNC

My queries are not showing the most current data that is in the general device information.  Some queries are even displaying results with machines that have been deleted from inventory.

I've run coredbutil and dbrepair, restarted services, etc., and the odd data still shows.  Where is the query getting the data?

Wrong IP address on managed devices with Oracle Virtual Box software 4.x or 5.x installed

$

Hello everybody.

This is a topic that is related to the question I've posted a month ago : Wrong NIC address in the inventory (virtual adapter instead of Ethernet adapter)

After some tests I made with clients connected through CSA to the core server, now the IP address that sends to the core belongs to the Virtual Box virtual adapter instead of the right one (appart from registering the wrong primary NIC card for the device) :

This is what shows the Core console when these devices are connecting from external networks through CSA:

Adaptadores incorrectosViaCSA1.jpg

For the first one, device CR3533006DC0052, the network settings when connecting throgh CSA were this:

confRedErronea.jpg

Back to the corporate network, the device reported the right IP address although the primary NIC in the "Network node" is still the one that belongs to Virtual Box.

Then I choose another device that were reporting correctly their IP address and NIC either throgh CSA or directly to the Core server : CR3533006DC0087. But I decided to install the latest version of Virtual Box 5.0 available on it and repeated the connectivity tests, the result was that it began to have the same problems as the first device.

I have been looking into the community for similar cases and the few ones that I have found, the solution that was proposed was to set up correctly the network binding order :

https://community.landesk.com/support/message/92802#92802

Both devices were configured following the recomendations that I found in this article : The IP address of the managed device isn't updated - the IP address of the wrong network connection is reported

The binding order on both devices (configured before the tests are done) is what follows : 1 Ethernet, 2 Wireless, 3 VMNet1, 4 VMnet8, 5 VirtualBox Host-Only Network.

2016-02-18 12_18_50-Configuración avanzada.png2016-02-18 12_20_49-Conexiones de red.png

Nonetheless, it still reporting the wrong IP and the wrong NIC address for the primary adapter. I have even uninstall the agents and reinstall again but with no results.

Has somebody experienced this issue or is any workaround I can try?

Thanks everybody for your time if you have come to the end of this article!

ErrorScan folder explosion after Windows 10 install

$

One of our smaller partner companies has begun running Windows 10 Enterprise. Since going live in production, we have noticed that most if not all of their inventory scans have started falling into the ErrorScan folder. We quickly identified this being a VarChar limit as a result of our scanning of .DAT files (some of our vendor updates rely on DAT files in lieu of version numbers.

Our DAT file scan is accomplished in Manage Software LIst>Settings>DataFileExtensions. We then thought to exclude the folders/file paths in question but hit a wall.

Ex. of some of the problematic file paths in our ErrorScan SCN files:
