LDAPWHOAMI.EXE -- Bug in LANDesk 9.0 SP3 service???

$

We had a curious thing occur -- I will explain as best I can. Gradually, over the course of a few weeks, many but not all of our workstations (with users logged in) started hammering the hell out of the Domain Controllers in our environment. This resulted over time in bringing a number of them down and increasing congestion over the network. Turns out that ldapwhoami.exe was the culprit and it was repeatedly attempting, hundreds a second, to try to reach an AD OU. The process was running at 40% on the workstation. When the OU was created, apparently authenticated users did not have read or write permissions and it was felt that those rights were not necessary. Once they started dumping users into the OU and those users would log in, ldapwhoami.exe would try to update the inventory but it would fail at that OU and retry continuously (indefinitely). When we gave read permissions to the OU all of our problems went away.

Question is...Is this a bug or would this be attributed to normal behaviour? You would think that after a few failed attempts that ldapwhoami.exe would stop trying until the next inventory scan at least and not run continous on the machine.

Scheduled Inventory Scans by Scope

Hi.  I've been roaming (searching) for answers as to why when I select a scope or a device group under TARGETS when attempting to schedule an inventory scan that after I click SAVE the results showing in all devices is UNKNOWN.  If I select a single PC, it shows up.  Am I doing something silly?  2017.3 here... Thanks.

Query to find out .NetFramework installed

I have created a query that selects a group of machines by model and by login user. Out of those machines I wold like to create a report to show the .Netframework installed. I have noticed that the majority of the devices have .NetFramework 2.0 but there are other ones that have different one. I have selected certain colums to show what I need but only .Netframework 2.0 show in the report because that is what I have chosen. What do I need to do to show version of .Netframework.

Thanks in advance!

Local Scheduler Not Working On All PC's

Hey everyone,

We have deployed a new client to a few thousand PC's and are noticing that the locally scheduled tasks (vulscan and inventory scan) are not running on some PC's.  The same client went on all systems so we don't suspect anything with the client.  I know this is a pretty broad question but can anyone offer any suggestions as to what would cause the local scheduler to fail running on some systems?

Thanks

How to force an inventory scan on PC's which have been off for many weeks?

Here is my dilemma.  I have 5000 PC’s, which for the most part have been off for roughly 70 days.  Now that they are being turned back on, the IP addresses of the PC’s are not matching what’s in LANDesk.  Therefore, packages fail when being pushed out (a different agent responded).  To make this situation a bit crazier and because of login slowness, the inventory scan was removed from startup.  So, the only way to run an inventory scan is manually or if I am thinking correctly by re-pushing the client to all computers.

My question is.  Is there a way to simple force a scan on all computers, regardless if their IP address matches?   Perhaps using agent discovery?

Thanks

PC Model information

Hello:

I have a handful of workstations that either have no PC model information or inncorrect model information.  That is, the inventory field Computer.Model is either blank or has bad info (i.e., a Dell Latitude (laptop) reporting itself as a Dimension (not a laptop).  After doing some looking through the inventory I realized that another inventory field, Computer.System.Model, contains the correct information.

The only place on the actual machines, or in Active Directory that I find the model information is in the BIOS - this seems to be where Computer.System.Model is getting its info.  I confirmed on the test machines that I can easily access that WMI reports itself OK - this seems to be borne out by the correct information (including serial numbers) that is found under Computer.System.*.

Where is Computer.Model pulling its information?  Why is it accurate for about 90+% of the machines, but not on others?

Thanks for your help.

Query to find Windows Firewall Status?

$

Hello All,

We are in the process of troubleshooting an issue with our Group Policy that controls the Windows Firewall and need to find machines that have the Firewall turned on and which have it turned off.  Our Policy is set so that when a PC is on the managed network, it will turn the Firewall 'Off', using the Domain Profile, but when a PC is connected to an unmanaged network, it turns it 'On', using the Standard Profile.  We have one program that has brought this to our attention but only a few departments use this particular program and I'm thinking the issue is more widespread than what we're seeing.

I don't necessarily need to know if the service itself is started or stopped, just if it's On/Off.  Does anyone know of a way I can query to find out if the Firewall is On/Off and if it's using the Domain or non-domain settings?

Thanks!

LDISCN32.EXE Times Out On Clients

$

We're on LANDesk 9 SP2 and I seem to have a problem lately where Inventory Scans are timing out on Windows XP client computers. I'm getting an error in the Application log on affected clients...

"Event ID 1002"

"Application Hang"

"Hanging application LDISCN32.EXE, version 9.0.2.120, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000."

We first noticed the problem because we use a command in our OS deployment process to send a full inventory scan after a machine is re-imaged. On some OS deployment jobs we started to see clients that would hang and never complete the Inventory Scan section of the script. I had to terminate the ldiscn32.exe process in Task Manager. If I run an Inventory Scan from the Start Menu shortcut I see that Hardware Inventory is complete, Software Inventory runs to about 80% on the progress bar and then just stays there, having processed around 37,400 files. (The actual number of files processed varies.)

I'm not sure how many of our client computers are affected, but I suspect it's quite a few because I see a number of inventory records that have not seen an updated software inventory in many weeks, even though the machines are connected to the network every day. I don't think it's a problem on the core because my ldscan folder is not filling up with SCN files, and some clients are sending inventory successfully.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jayson

GatherProducts.exe High CPU Utilization and Run Time

Has anyone else seen the GatherProducts.exe process run at an average of 45-50% cpu utilization and/or take 25 minutes to run? The gatherproducts.exe log takes about 3 seconds to get to 'Initializing MSI DB', 25 minutes to get to 'Finished initializing MSI DB' and 15 seconds to complete. We are currently a new install of LFMS 9.0 SP3. Any insight is appreciated.

I have a few devices that I mark for deletion within LDMS. The way I understand this process is that I only mark it for deletion and then by default around 23:00 these are removed from the inventory. But when I come back the next day, I see the stale devices are still there.

Create a query to show how many devices were image in a given time.

Hi everyone.

I am trying to write a query to return devices that were imaged in a given date range and I'm trying to find a good indicator in the inventory that I can run against.

I thought Record Creation Date would be good but that doesn't account for a device being imaged, just when the record was created in Landesk.

Then I thought about LANDESK Management - Agent Configuration Date but again that doesn't necessarily give a date for when the device was imaged (but it is better indicator).

I can't do a query against scheduled Tasks (LANDESK Management - Scheduler - Tasks) because we tend to clean up old tasks otherwise we end up with thousands sitting there we don't need.

Any ideas? There must be a field in here somewhere that gives this information or has anyone managed to find another way to get this information.

Thanks in advance.
