LDISCN32.EXE Times Out On Clients

$

We're on LANDesk 9 SP2 and I seem to have a problem lately where Inventory Scans are timing out on Windows XP client computers. I'm getting an error in the Application log on affected clients...

"Event ID 1002"

"Application Hang"

"Hanging application LDISCN32.EXE, version 9.0.2.120, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000."

We first noticed the problem because we use a command in our OS deployment process to send a full inventory scan after a machine is re-imaged. On some OS deployment jobs we started to see clients that would hang and never complete the Inventory Scan section of the script. I had to terminate the ldiscn32.exe process in Task Manager. If I run an Inventory Scan from the Start Menu shortcut I see that Hardware Inventory is complete, Software Inventory runs to about 80% on the progress bar and then just stays there, having processed around 37,400 files. (The actual number of files processed varies.)

I'm not sure how many of our client computers are affected, but I suspect it's quite a few because I see a number of inventory records that have not seen an updated software inventory in many weeks, even though the machines are connected to the network every day. I don't think it's a problem on the core because my ldscan folder is not filling up with SCN files, and some clients are sending inventory successfully.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Need Help Creating Query to Find Computers Without Updated Program

Hi everyone,

I'm fresh to operating LANdesk and myself and others in our staff are really racking our brains about how to resolve this. So, being a total n00b, I'll try to explain this as best possible. And please be simple in response! (Anyone have a LANdesk for dummies?)

I'm trying to create a query to find computers that do not have a specific version of a program installed. I figured the simple answer is to just use "not exist" and the title/version of the program I'm looking for.But that doesn't seem to work like that. I can't effectively do a search of all previous versions, because the program can run the new version with or without the old version. We need to find what PC's do not have the program installed so we can make sure to get the program pushed out or get to it by foot.

I have heard / seen a couple of mentions of the attached Network Printers now being available in Inventory, but am not sure where to find them in the inventory window.  Any ideas where I should look?  do i need to enable anything special on my Inventory settings?

Quick question regarding printer inventory

So I have just run a report that lists all "physically connected" printers on my network and I have two fast questions regarding the results:

1. If a printer is "unplugged" from a computer but it remains installed on the device will it still show in this inventory?

2. If the above answer is no, how long does it take for a disconnected printer to fall out of inventory?

Thanks!

Bitlocker Recovery Key in Inventory

Hi,

there is a Inventory Property - "Computer"."Mass Storage"."Drive Encryption"."Recovery Key"

2017-05-23 18_34_57-LANDESK® Management Console.png

Unfortunatelly the Inventory Information is not populated by the inventory scanner.

Some of the other informations are collected by the Scanner:

So my question is, is there a build in support for reading out the Recovery Key to this Inventory field or do I have to run additional scripts for populating this Inventory Entry?

Thank you, Marco

LDAPWHOAMI.EXE -- Bug in LANDesk 9.0 SP3 service???

$

We had a curious thing occur -- I will explain as best I can. Gradually, over the course of a few weeks, many but not all of our workstations (with users logged in) started hammering the hell out of the Domain Controllers in our environment. This resulted over time in bringing a number of them down and increasing congestion over the network. Turns out that ldapwhoami.exe was the culprit and it was repeatedly attempting, hundreds a second, to try to reach an AD OU. The process was running at 40% on the workstation. When the OU was created, apparently authenticated users did not have read or write permissions and it was felt that those rights were not necessary. Once they started dumping users into the OU and those users would log in, ldapwhoami.exe would try to update the inventory but it would fail at that OU and retry continuously (indefinitely). When we gave read permissions to the OU all of our problems went away.

Question is...Is this a bug or would this be attributed to normal behaviour? You would think that after a few failed attempts that ldapwhoami.exe would stop trying until the next inventory scan at least and not run continous on the machine.

HKCU registry custom data

Hi,

Has anyone successfully added and reported back in inventory information from HKCU using custom data?  I've added the registry key as per screenshot below and only get very limited results returned.  Most of which are administrators.  Previous posts on this are back in 2008 so don't seem to really apply any more.  I'm using LDMS 9.5 SP1.

Automatically Delete old Computers

So I have been wondering for a while now why I have so many old devices showing up in my inventory. According to this doc (http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-1188) The "Days to keep inventory scans" is supposed to take care of this, but it doesn't seem to be working. I have mine set to 30 days, but I have machines showing up in inventory with Last Hardware Scan Date of over 6 months ago. Why is this not working or how do I get it to work? Thanks.

Get Printers into Inventory

I'm running Landesk 9.6 SP2

In inventory it only lists printers that some software installed like One Note.

How can I get all printers installed (network) listed in Inventory? I saw where it can be done through Data Analytics but we do not subscribe to that nor want it.

ErrorScan folder explosion after Windows 10 install

One of our smaller partner companies has begun running Windows 10 Enterprise. Since going live in production, we have noticed that most if not all of their inventory scans have started falling into the ErrorScan folder. We quickly identified this being a VarChar limit as a result of our scanning of .DAT files (some of our vendor updates rely on DAT files in lieu of version numbers.

Our DAT file scan is accomplished in Manage Software LIst>Settings>DataFileExtensions. We then thought to exclude the folders/file paths in question but hit a wall.

Ex. of some of the problematic file paths in our ErrorScan SCN files:

Has anyone encountered this? If so, how did you resolve the issue.

If you haven't encountered this but are familiar with problems of this nature, what would you suggest?

We've just started deploying 9.6 SP3 and will be going to 2016 in the next few months.

Query for different versions of Internet Explorer

$

I've read the past threads on this, what few there were, but was unable to locate an answer that worked.

When I attempt to query for IE versions, Utilizing the Custom Data, or the Product/Name functions, I get a jumbled response.  It brings back pretty much everything in the computer software inventory.

I need to be able to differiniate between IE 7 and IE 8 but can not get it to run correctly and bring back what i am asking it for.  I can get it to bring back 8 only. but not 7 and 8 nor, more perfably, everything but 8.

After establishing the quert to bring back the above, I would tack on it further statements that will bring it back for a particular subnet as well.  I've managed to do this for other programs, such as Lotus and Adobe, but IE isnt' performing the same... I must assume this is because it's imbedded into the OS correct?

Thanks for any help you can provide scripting the correct logic for this function.

Database errors causing problems with inventory

Hello.

We recently upgraded to 8.8 (and we have also installed service pack 1) and have since had the following error messages show up in the event log. The first one says this: Inventory server detected {89FF8FEC-C909-4443-9177-B92CC2A72C29} as a duplicated device ID

I looked in the forums and have not found the same error message so I am stumped on that one.

The second error message says this: Scan file from {57534A2D-3758-374A-9124-C78C74E566D7} contains an invalid Product Definition.  Make sure the scanner is using a current ldappl3.ini file.

I have tried to push out the new ldappl3.ini file by going to the Software License Monitoring tool and using the "Make Available to Clients" button but I am still getting the same error. It is generating a lot of files in the ErrorScan folder. I went to the client in question and was able to browse to the ldmain\ldlogon share via a web browser and get to and download the Ldapple3.ldz file so I don't think it is a connectivity issue. Also I checked the Mime types in IIS on the core and .ldz is listed.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks.

Adding Folder Size to Inventory

$

Hi

We are in the preparatory stages of forcing a redirection of the local MyDocuments  folder for all domain clients to a nas. To get an idea

of impact on storage I want to be able to report on the amount of data which is likely to be moved.

What would be the best way to get the folder size for the MyDocuments folder for the Primary Owner of the device added to the inventory?

Thanks

Simon
