How to force an inventory scan on PC's which have been off for many weeks?

$

Here is my dilemma.  I have 5000 PC’s, which for the most part have been off for roughly 70 days.  Now that they are being turned back on, the IP addresses of the PC’s are not matching what’s in LANDesk.  Therefore, packages fail when being pushed out (a different agent responded).  To make this situation a bit crazier and because of login slowness, the inventory scan was removed from startup.  So, the only way to run an inventory scan is manually or if I am thinking correctly by re-pushing the client to all computers.

My question is.  Is there a way to simple force a scan on all computers, regardless if their IP address matches?   Perhaps using agent discovery?

Thanks

Query for different versions of Internet Explorer

$

I've read the past threads on this, what few there were, but was unable to locate an answer that worked.

When I attempt to query for IE versions, Utilizing the Custom Data, or the Product/Name functions, I get a jumbled response.  It brings back pretty much everything in the computer software inventory.

I need to be able to differiniate between IE 7 and IE 8 but can not get it to run correctly and bring back what i am asking it for.  I can get it to bring back 8 only. but not 7 and 8 nor, more perfably, everything but 8.

After establishing the quert to bring back the above, I would tack on it further statements that will bring it back for a particular subnet as well.  I've managed to do this for other programs, such as Lotus and Adobe, but IE isnt' performing the same... I must assume this is because it's imbedded into the OS correct?

Thanks for any help you can provide scripting the correct logic for this function.

Picture field in Inspect

When I right click on a device and select Inspect I notice that there is what looks like a placeholder for a picture of the logged on user.

Is this really that or is it just an icon?

We have our users' pictures in AD and it would be good if this could populate through to Management Suite.

Is this possible?

MINISCAN.EXE command switches and additional documentation

Hi folks - in response to the document posted here about MINISCAN and /send, does anyone have any additional information or reference about these switches?

" As of LDMS 8.7, we can send custom data with a miniscan for a Windows client.

The format for this scan is;

"c:\program files\landesk\ldclient\miniscan.exe" "/send=Custom Data - Logged On = Yes"

Where "/send=" is the switch to let miniscan.exe know to include the data that follows in the minscan file. It is important to include the quotes "/send" for the command to work.

The rest of the command line follows the rules for custom data. Remember, this is a snippet of information only, up to 255 characters. "

Thanks!

Change Inventory Scan interval on an Agent

$

Currently running LDMS 9.0

When we deployed the agents we set the inventory scan to be run every 7 days (This setting was set for servers as app owners were worried about the resource issues....), however now we would like to change this value to either 3 or 4 days.  Besides changing the agent settings and pushing the update, is there any other way to accomplish this, Maybe a script to modify some registry value...

Any help in this matter is much appreciated.

Thanks

Inventory data for is out of sync. A full scan will be forced.

Hello,

I have such messages for about 8 / 10 times for one day.

I know it is a notification about the fact that the Delta scan has not been received correctly.

Can i do something to force only on some of these computers (i know which one are concerned) always a full scan to be done every day and not a Delta.

Thanks a lot.

Query for Internet Explorer 9

Hello,

Not sure if I am missing something but when I create a query for Internet Explorer 9 I can't find an entry.  Also when I create one for IE8 I only get XP computers with IR installed.  I suspect this is because for 8, it's a core part of the Win 7 OS?

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi All

Is there a way of using LANDesk to find out what drives a user has mapped, and what the share name is?  I did see one document that wanted me to change the ldappl3.template file with a load of HKEY references. Is this the only way?

Am using LANDesk 9 - inventory and reporting are not my greatest assets (OSD is my area), so please be patient with me!

Thanks

How does inventory scanner will scan for software ??

$

Dear all,

I would like to understand how does the inventory scanner scans for software. I have read in many documents that there are many sources from where the scanner get the list of installed or running software:

- MSI database for MSI applications

- Application in add/remove feature (Normally only applications that have uninstall feature will be displayed) Registry folder where the list of this type of application is stored is HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall)

- Items which have been executed. (softmon32.exe will be running all the time to capture all running programs and add them to HKLM\Software\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\WinClient\SoftwareMonitoring\MonitorLog )

- Applications with shortcut

- Executable files found in local drives.

I would like to understand how does it work from inside? how does LDAPPL3.ini file will be updated in the core server especially all applications that will added to the section "[Applications]" ? what does LDAPPL3.template contains ? what is the content of LDAPPL3.base? what is the inital content of LDAPPL3 files ?

I will appreciate if someone can explain the process step by step starting from the installation of LD agent to how does LDAPPL3.ini file in the core server will be updated? If the inventory scanner in the managed device finds out that its current version is not up to date does LDAPPL3.ldz will be downloaded or delta changes LDAPPL3.pat ?

Thanks in advance and waiting for your feedback.

"Scan at login" behavior?

$

Hello,

First of all, apologies if this has been asked somewhere else before, but search returned nothing.

Anyways, I'm looking for a little more information on the "scan at log in" flag in Inventory options for the agent. I'm trying to avoid anything that will significantly increase log in times (many users have extremely large profiles, so login times are already terrible for a number of users... Not My Department!). Is there a way to tell the "login" inventory scan to run a basic /F scan? I'm mostly interested in keeping Login Name, Primary Owner etc inventory information up to date, and leave the rest of the scan up to the daily and weekly inventory scans.

V/r,

Need help with a WMI query

Hi,

i'm trying to make a WMI query at the "inventory" - "user defined data". With WMI Explorer i got the following values:

Name Space: Root\CIMV2

Class: Win32_PnPEntity

Instance: KPCI-488 GPIB Interface

Caption: KPCI-488 GPIB Interface

In Landesk i have:

Name Space

Class Name

Display Object

Property Name

Display Name

Does anyone know where i have to insert the individual "WMI values" in the "Landesk Property box"? "Name Space" and "Class" is evident, but the remaining...

Many thanks for your help.

IP address updates

Some of my assests do not automatically update with a new IP address when they have been off the network past their IP address lease expiry time. When this happens the device appears to be online but when you connect to it the following message appears:

The IP address of the computer you are attempting to control does not match the IP name on your network.  Do you want to continue? Yes or No.  If you click Yes this will connect to adifferent machine.

Is there a way to control this?
