Scan For Custom Data Registry Key not Working

$

LD9 SP3

I followed Doc 1089 to the T and checked on the computer in the ldapl32.ini file to see if the core passed on the registry entry I added in the  core and it was there.

I run a Full Sync scan on the computer and nothing new shows in my inventory.

The registry keys I added all have a dword listed or Reg_sz listed in the registry.

Checked, doublechecked spelling , spaces, commas etc in fact I took a entry that is working and copyed it but put it under a different heading in the inventory and it only shows under the heading it was in originally(I did not delete the original entry only copyed/duplicated).

The original heading was (Computer) - Custom Data - Landesk.  The new heading (Computer) - Custom data - Nic settings.

Also checked in Services - Inventory Blocked applications and can't find my entry in there either.

Any suggestions?

Query: Software Installed, exluding "trash"

LANDesk Management Suite v9.0.3.1

Hello, I am pretty new to LANDesk and I am kind of stuck.  I created a query to show me software installed on machines (software inventory) in a location, but I want to exlude some items that I just dont care about.  My query is put together like this:

"Computer"."Computer Location" LIKE "my location"

AND ("Computer"."Software"."Add or Remove Programs"."Programs"."Name" NOT LIKE "Update for"

OR "Computer"."Software"."Add or Remove Programs"."Programs"."Name" NOT LIKE "Security Update"

OR "Computer"."Software"."Add or Remove Programs"."Programs"."Name" NOT LIKE "Flash Player"

...

the list goes on

...

)

The problem that I am having is that it will run and still give me results containing "Update for", "Security Update", "Flash Player", and so on.  I found the following KB and if I am reading this correctly, then LANDesk is behing as expected.  http://kb.landesk.com/support/thread/17154.  They list a SQL query as a solution, but I am not quite sure how use that in LANDesk and probably don't have access to that part of it.

Is what I am trying to do possible?  Any advise woulbe be appreciated!

Add entire registry key to inventory - not just single value

$

Hello.

Is it possible to add an entire registry key to the inventory instead of just a single value?

Example:

Today I have the following in my LdAppl3.ini file which is working:

;Some data to determine if a machine needs to be rebooted

KEY=HKLM, SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager, PendingFileRenameOperations, Custom Data - Security Scan - Pending File Rename

But I'd also like to add the "VulscanReboot" information since it's my experience that the "PendingFileRenameOperations" is not as reliable in Windows Server 2008 as in 2003. My problem is that "VulscanReboot" is a key with dynamic values below that that are named after the patch that requieres a reboot so I don't relly know the name of that value.

I've tried to add the following, but none of them seems to work.

KEY=HKLM, SOFTWARE\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\WinClient\VulscanReboot, , Custom Data - Security Scan - VulscanReboot

KEY=HKLM, SOFTWARE\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\WinClient\VulscanReboot, ? , Custom Data - Security Scan - VulscanReboot

KEY=HKLM, SOFTWARE\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\WinClient\VulscanReboot, * , Custom Data - Security Scan - VulscanReboot

I'm using the /O parameter to save the inventory scan to a local file so I can see what it submits to the CORE, so it's not a matter of making the change available or allowing an unknown item because it's not even in the local file

Thanks in advance.

/Michael

No inventory data collected

Hello Folks,

I am new to LANDesk, and currently evaluating the LDMS 9.0 SP2 in a simple virtual environment, however it is not a pleasant experience so far. I have been troubleshooting for two days, including a complete reinstall of my test environment.

After the install, I deployed agents to a variety of operating systems with the first start wizard (Windows 7 Ultimate x86 localized, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 English, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 English), and I got stuck, as none of them  report inventory, and do not appear in the All devices node. All of my clients stay in the Pending unmanaged devices node forever.

The inventory process runs fine on all the clients, but all of the inventory files get into the ldscan\ErrorScan folder on the core server.

Meanwhile there are several 4100 errors in the Application Event Log:

Database exception: SCAC81D.SCN, LDInv.dll

-2146825023

Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.

Insert Table:Processor Column:PROCSERIALNUM, Thread ID: 4680.

After that, there is always a 4107:

Successfully connected to the database at 21:12:56, Thread ID: 4536.

I have tried the following so far:

- Patch the LANDesk provided SQL 2005 Express to SP4 -> No luck, even after full reinstall of the Core server machine and clients.

- Omit processor serial number from the inventory. -> Chokes on other attributes, and I did not have the patience to exclude them after a trying a few.

- Check the size and data type of the attributes in the SQL database, based on the stuff in the inventory scan file. -> Seems to be fine.

- Connected on the database with sa, and tried to insert the information about the processor manually. -> Worked fine.

- Moving files from the ErrorScan folder into the ldscan folder. -> Complains about delta inventories, throws the same 4100 for the full inventories. Everything goes back into ErrorScan.

- Checked the DB Threads and DB Error recovery tries setting, because some KB article recommended it. -> The default value seems to be fine.

- Searched for fixes to the product, maybe this is a known issue. -> I cannot download SP3, because I do not have a contract... *sigh*

I am currently out of ideas, and searches don't seem to return anything relevant. I can attach inventory files if needed, but I suppose the problem is with something else.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Microsoft OS Naming Convention Change

It appears that Microsoft has changed its naming convention on their OS's. They have dropped the name Microsoft in front and standarized the version and bit information. This is to align with Windows 8 naming convention.

Before:

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Edition, 32-bit

After:

Windows 7 Professional 32

This has really thrown a wrench into previous written queries and reports. We are in the process now of normalizing with Data Analytics and contacting Microsoft on when this change was made.

Inventory scan will not complete with Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 installed.

After completing our upgrade to LDMS 9.5 from 9.0 SP3 we are unable to successfully run LDISCN32.EXE with Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 installed on XP based machines, does not seem to be affecting Win7. The inventory scan hangs on the software and fails to close LDISCN32.EXE. If you uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection, the inventory scan completes without issues. We have turned off every option in Symantec but are unable to run an inventory scan with it installed.

Custom registry data not working

Hello

I have some problems with custom registry data on LDMS 9.5 and Windows 7 64bits clients : data are not insered into database.

Clients ldappl3.ini are up to date and "Unknow items" is configured to allow my custom data, following http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-7457

Inventory is launched using "C:\Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\LDClient\LDIScn32.EXE" /NTT=LDMSSRV:5007 /S=LDMSSRV /I=\\LDMSSRV\ldlogon\ldappl3.ldz /NOUI"

Even Internet Explorer version registry is not working, after applying http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-27801

I have also tried to clean database using DBRepair (06022011)

If you have an idea, I'm your man

How can i query users by what their first name starts with?

$

I'm setting up my patch process.  I have a static group of machines for my initial patch testing.  I'd like to set up a 20% Pilot group, but don't want to be dealing with keeping it up to date, nor do i want my IT team to have to refer to a list to see if a user is part of the pilot group or not.

I want to select 20% by creating a query that returns all users with a first name that starts with a letter between A and J.  This will give me 20% of our environment that is pretty much random.  It's also easy for the IT team to remember that if a person's first name is between A and J then they are piloting patches.

How can i do this?

Problem with LDISCN32: The inventory server did not respond

$

Hello,

Recently I have discovered that few machines within my LDMS 9 SP1 @ W2K3 SP2 inventory can't upload their hardware / software scans. When I'm trying to run a HW scan manually from one of the affected clients, I'm getting "LDISCN32: The inventory server CORE did not respond" error.

I can successfully telnet to 5007, so it seems not a connectivity problem. Vulnerability scan works fine. All other PCs are doing well

What did I already try:

- Checked all Windows logs - nothing seems wrong, they're "all blue",

- LDISCN32.LOG contains few lines only: "Wed, 25 Aug 2010 16:17:26 Unable to add total cpu utilization counter.  Will not be monitoring CPU utilization. -1073738824"

Any hints...?

Thx, Piotr

Inventory Service Crashing

$

0

The Inventory Service on our Core server is crashing every couple of weeks or so.  I checked the error log and there is a set of reoccuring errors being reported by the Inventory Service within a minute of each other before the crash:

First error: "the size of AppSoftwareSuites.PRODUCTID is too small, increase its size by at least 10."

Second error: "Database exception:

SCA8EE9.SCN

LDInv.dll

-2147217887

Multiple-step operation generated errors. Check each status value.

Update Table:AppSoftwareSuites Column:PRODUCTID PK:Easy Grade Pro

Thread ID: 12576."

Third error: "Could not read the metaschema.  Make sure the database is a valid LANDesk 7.5 or greater version."

Fourth error: "Database exception: ."

The third and fourth errors occur less frequently then the first two, which occur quite often without causing a crash.  However, the group of four errors often occur all within the same minute of each other before the Inventory Service crashes.

It appears that every time the third and fourth errors occur, the Inventory Scanner on the Core server reports: "LDIScn32: The inventory server OTSCYLANDESK did not respond.".  Clients can not send in inventory scans until the service is started again manually.  I have already set the service to restart on every failure  (Computer Management>Services>LANDesk Inventory Service).  I have also set configure>Inventory>Advanced Settings>set "DB Error Recovery" to "10000".  After restarting the service manually, the service runs for a week or two and then crashes again.

I have also seen at least one occasion where the last error reported by the Inventory Service says "Out of memory".   The server has 3.5GB of memory.

I should mention that we are currently getting approx. 1500 rejected delta scans due to Deepfreeze being on half of our computing environment.  We have not yet turned off Delta scanning as we are going to try to resolve the issue without turning off Delta scanning.  Every other day or so, I empty the ErrorScan folder on the Core server.  Could this be causing the problem?

Thanks,

Dan

Display Email address for Primary Owner

Currently, I know how to, and actively use LDAP security groups to query and deploy software.

I'd like to be able to display, and inventory against the email address of the primary owner.

I have been playing in the Directory Manager, but can't seem to make that give the info.

LDAPPL3.ini doesn't seem to include LDAP info.

Has anyone done this before?

Inventory scanner unable to connect to the core

75% of the machines for my firm are in remote, field offices.  These computers are non-domain workstations.   When installing the agent on a few of these branch computers, the installation goes through normally, however the machines do not show up on the core.  Someon mentioned to me that the inventory scanner possibly did not run on the machines.  when I go to run the inventory scanner, i get the attached error "LDSCN32: The inventory server ... did not respond"

I suspect that during the agent configuration, I would need to change the core server name to the Gateway's public address.  will that work the way I expect it?  the wayward cliend will in an inventory scan and reach out to the gateway appliance. the gateway appliance forwards the connection on to the core?

Need help with a WMI query

Hi,

i'm trying to make a WMI query at the "inventory" - "user defined data". With WMI Explorer i got the following values:

Name Space: Root\CIMV2

Class: Win32_PnPEntity

Instance: KPCI-488 GPIB Interface

Caption: KPCI-488 GPIB Interface

In Landesk i have:

Name Space

Class Name

Display Object

Property Name

Display Name

Does anyone know where i have to insert the individual "WMI values" in the "Landesk Property box"? "Name Space" and "Class" is evident, but the remaining...

Many thanks for your help.

LDAP Location Blank after upgrading agent to 9.5 SP2

$

Hello,

We recently upgraded our LANDesk core servers from 9.0 SP4 to 9.5 SP2.  The client agents themselves are still mainly running 9.0 SP4 at the moment.  When upgrading the client agent to 9.5 SP2 the parameter "LDAP Location" directly off of the Computer tree is blank.  The old 9.0 SP4 agents are still reporting this accurately.  "Computer Location" is accurate in both agents.

This wouldn't be much of a big deal but our entire scoping is built off of the "LDAP Location" parameter.

Has anybody seen this or know how to fix it?

Time Zone Query

$

Hello,

Is there a way to query for the Time zone setting on each device in LANDesk.

The reason I'm asking this is that I need to deploy some packages at specific times, but local time.  My devices are scattered from Germany to Alaska and all Time Zones in between.  This is even more troublesome when you take into account Daylight savings time.

I've looked in the environment variables and can see nothing.

If there is a way to query local time rather than the time zone that would work for me too.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Computer Purchase Date

Can anyone give me any ideas how I could get the computer purchase date in the inventory?  I don't want the end users to fill in the information, and would rather do it myself whether it was an import or some sort of manual entry.  I want to be able to query on it and I also want to be sure it stays in the database when the computer is re imaged.  I currently have LANDesk 8.7 SP6.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Custom data forms - data is not added to inventory

$

We recently started using custom data forms in LANDesk 8.8 and it seemed to work ok at first. Lately we have found that if we fill out the custom data form and then send in a full inventory scan, the form data is usually not added to our database. (I say "usually" because when I run a query in LANDesk I can see that one computer added custom data as recently as yesterday, however many of the computers never seem to send the custom form data.)

The command we are using to force a full inventory scan on the clients is...

"C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\LDISCN32.EXE" /NTT=<LDMSCORE>:5007 /S=2305SRV2  /I=HTTP://<LDMSCORE>/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz /NOUI /SYNCH

After running this command I can see that the "Last software scan date" has changed in LANDesk, and as far as I know allthe software and hardware inventory is updated accurately. When I check in the "..\LANDesk\LDClient" folder on the client computer I can see that LDCUSTOM.DAT is there, and if I open the file with Notepad I can read the custom form data that we entered.

What could be stopping those clients from entering the custom data in our database? Is there a log file on the server or on the client that I should be looking at?
