Re-detecting deleted devices

$

Hi,

I'm curious as to how I can get Landesk to re-detect a device that has been deleted from the console.

We manage many hundreds of devices and our normal process is to have a device deleted if it has not had a successful scan in over 2 months, however on occaison we have come across the odd laptop which has simply been locked away in a cupboard for a couple of months however can not be found on landesk except as an unmanaged device.

I've attempted to push out the Agent Configuration however this Fails with the error "Failed to build the agent installation package". I was previously under the impression that if a device is deleted from Landesk and is then at a later date plugged back into the network it would automatically be discovered again.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Add Defrag & Chkdsk data to Inventory?

Hi all

We're in the process of rolling out Checkpoint Full Disk Encryption (FDE) software to our firm's laptops.  One of the advised pre-requirements is to run a chkdsk and defrag.  If chkdsk reveals bad sectors we may need to run "chkdsk /F" and/or replace the hard drive(s) depending on the extent of the problem before installing FDE.  We have used the following LANDesk custom scripts to run a chkdsk and defrag and pipe logfiles to a server share for analysis:-

[MACHINES]
remexec0= chkdsk>\\server\share\CheckPoint\Chkdsk\Logfiles\%computername%.log

[MACHINES]
remexec0= defrag c: >\\server\share\Defrag\Analysis\%computername%.log

This is fine in principle but we will have hundreds of logfiles to manually look through for chkdsk "bad sectors" and defrag "status".

Is there a way either to:-

1) Collate the .LOG files into a Logfile Analyser utility (I tried Splunk but seemed over-complicated for our needs)?  Is AutoIT an option here and if so how please?

2) Run the LANDesk custom scripts on a machine then merge data from the .LOG file into the machine's LANDesk Inventory so that we can query/report on the results (this would be ideal!)?

We have searched the net but cannot find a way of doing this.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Scott

How to find duplicate devices in a large inventory?

Hello,

I recently notice in my event viewer that I am getting references regarding some duplicate devices and I would like to get this cleaned up.

Inventory server detected {5F043037-DE8F-AD44-9FB9-EFE02374E322} as a duplicated device ID.

Currenty I have 5000+ clients and it has become a challenge for me to easily identify these duplicates. Is there and easy way to scan for these to help me get this cleaned up?

Thanks,

Mike

LANDeskLogonsRegKey.jpg

Hello,

i've found this registry key to be really useful for seeing who is logging into a machine.  i've been curious if the Name corresponds to a date/time.  Attached is a screenshot of what i'm talking about.

Thanks,

Removing 200 computers from a text file

Hi guys,

We have 200 computers which are being trashed and need removing from landesk.

We have a list of them in a text file but can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to remove them in bulk without searching for each individual machine?

Please be aware we have Inventory only and have no other landesk modules.

THanks

No inventory data collected

Hello Folks,

I am new to LANDesk, and currently evaluating the LDMS 9.0 SP2 in a simple virtual environment, however it is not a pleasant experience so far. I have been troubleshooting for two days, including a complete reinstall of my test environment.

After the install, I deployed agents to a variety of operating systems with the first start wizard (Windows 7 Ultimate x86 localized, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 English, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 English), and I got stuck, as none of them  report inventory, and do not appear in the All devices node. All of my clients stay in the Pending unmanaged devices node forever.

The inventory process runs fine on all the clients, but all of the inventory files get into the ldscan\ErrorScan folder on the core server.

Meanwhile there are several 4100 errors in the Application Event Log:

Database exception: SCAC81D.SCN, LDInv.dll

-2146825023

Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.

Insert Table:Processor Column:PROCSERIALNUM, Thread ID: 4680.

After that, there is always a 4107:

Successfully connected to the database at 21:12:56, Thread ID: 4536.

I have tried the following so far:

- Patch the LANDesk provided SQL 2005 Express to SP4 -> No luck, even after full reinstall of the Core server machine and clients.

- Omit processor serial number from the inventory. -> Chokes on other attributes, and I did not have the patience to exclude them after a trying a few.

- Check the size and data type of the attributes in the SQL database, based on the stuff in the inventory scan file. -> Seems to be fine.

- Connected on the database with sa, and tried to insert the information about the processor manually. -> Worked fine.

- Moving files from the ErrorScan folder into the ldscan folder. -> Complains about delta inventories, throws the same 4100 for the full inventories. Everything goes back into ErrorScan.

- Checked the DB Threads and DB Error recovery tries setting, because some KB article recommended it. -> The default value seems to be fine.

- Searched for fixes to the product, maybe this is a known issue. -> I cannot download SP3, because I do not have a contract... *sigh*

I am currently out of ideas, and searches don't seem to return anything relevant. I can attach inventory files if needed, but I suppose the problem is with something else.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Is there any way where i can take the inventory of the Machines which is not contacting the Landesk server through any script or any tool.

I have the following scenario, we have two domains in our organisation say Domain A & Domain B and both the domain is not contacting to each other, my landesk server is in Domain A, i just want to take the inventory of all the machines in Domain B.. Can any one suggest how to do this. I just want to keep the inventory of those machines in my Landesk server.

Inventory Only Agent

Hi all,

We're running LANDesk 8.8 SP1 and would like to create an agent that only does inventory so we can capture hardware and software information only.

Obviously we can switch off Custom Data Forms, Software Distribution, etc but this still enables Patch and Vulnerability scanning, which could mean that someone could patch a server if they had the rights.

Is it possible to use a series of files to run an inventory from a machine without actually performing an install so no services and files are resident on the machine?

The reason for this is we're trying to ensure we get LANDesk information for a series of servers that we don't have direct access to as they're hosted at a managed data centre. Having local installations that requires changes to the OS and an agent that could 'alter' the OS is a security risk that we need to remove.

If anyone else has this scernario or any ideas of how just to capture inventory data only it would be useful to hear...!

Thanks,

Andy

LANDesk agents not able to report inventory

$

Hello,

We manage approximately 1,500 systems through LANDesk. I just recently (this week) upgraded our environment to 9.6. I had hoped that this would resolve an issue that has persisted since my predecessor was managing our environment. Of our 1,500 or so systems, there are about 40 agents that return no inventory information and fail to deploy packages correctly. Full re-installs of the agent have been tried on multiple occasions and seem to have no effect. When attempting to manually run an inventory scan, many return the message "ID 15531 - Failed - The system cannot find the file specified". This is despite the inventory scanner .exe being present on the system. Other systems afflicted by this issue run an inventory scan in a few seconds but return no data. Most of our systems function fine so this seems to be something specific to this small minority. I realize that there are likely multiple issues that could be causing this but I'm hoping that someone can give me direction as to where to start looking.

Thanks,

Random Printout From Serial Thermal Printer

We are trying to troubleshoot why several of our computers with "SNBC BTP-2002NP" thermal receipt printers randomly print out PJL commands.  The printers are connected to  POS computers that connect to a terminal server.  The printer is not installed it is just connected to the com 2 port.  The POS software runs from the terminal server and prints to the com 2 port.  When this happens it causes the application to freeze up on the RD Web Windows Terminal Server for the individuals session.  Does anyone know how LANDesk polls for printers to add them to inventory?  Would LANDesk send the following commands to the com port during inventory to determine information?

Security - "not auto-protected"

Hi all,

Just noticed this today (running 9.6 SP1)-- I usually run the inspection to see if any new computers are reporting that they do not have anti-virus installed. Today for the first time, I noticed there was a new option, "Not auto-protected". Near as I can tell, there is nothing different between those computers and others not on the list (it's only about 20 on this list).

Thoughts on what this "not auto-protected" means?

THanks in advance

Run inventory scanner automatically after software package installation.

In reference to running the inventory scanner automatically after software package installation, does that only apply when LANDesk does the installation or does it run automatically after any software is installed. Like through add/remove program? One last question, is there any way to run a software scan when package is removed?

When do added file types start showing up in software inventory?

LDMS 9.6 SP2; I've added a file type (.KEY) to the list of file types to be scanned, but when I perform a scan on my machine, the file (which I know is there) isn't showing up under Software - Packages. ldappl3.ini shows a correct modify date and when I look in there, the file type is shown, but the actual file that I'm looking for doesn't show up in inventory. Any thoughts?

Retrieve System and User DSN in ODBC

$

Hi,

I had a look around in Landesk to see if it's possible to retrieve a list of System and User DSNs from the registry. I have looked at custom data -- registry items but what we would be looking for is subkeys within HKLM\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources, these subkeys are unkown since users can call them whatever they want however the custom data requires a known key to retrieve custom data.

Has anyone performed this within Landesk? if so how?

Thanks

Last Software Scan Date is NOT updating

$

I have an issue where several thousand machines are not updating their Last Software Scan Date value after a full scan is performed.

Using a LANDesk script to force a full scan, the following command runs:

REMEXEC1=<qt/>%LDMS_CLIENT_DIR%\LDISCN32.EXE<qt/> /NTT=%server%:5007 /S="%server%" /I=HTTP://%server%/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz /NOUI /NOCD /F /SYNC

On almost 4000 machines, 3500 report as successfully scanned.

When I run a report or a query on LAST Software Scan Date - the date does not change and remains between 10 and 30 days ago. Other "Last scanned" fields update with the current date.

1. Why is this date field not updating?

2. Can I be reasonably sure that Software scans are not occuring?

3. What can I do to make sure that software scans are occuring and that the date field gets updated?

How to get "out of control" clients back in LANDesk

$

I have recently taken over LANDesk at my new company and it's a mess and not set up properly. Many things were not set up properly but I've just upgraded to 9.5 and I am trying to find and fix all of the problems. The main one to note was that the clients were refering to the core's hostname, not the FQDN. I have changed this, but still can't get clients to scan. We also have a Management Gateway, which I believe is set up properly now. 90% of our machines are remote and most will never connect directly to the network or VPN in. I've rebuilt the agent using ConfigureBroker.exe, tried to manually runs scans with the following command

"%ProgramFiles(x86)%\LANDesk\LDClient\LDISCN32.EXE"/NTT=<core's FQDN>:5007 /S=<core's FQDN> /I=HTTP://<core's FQDN>/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz /V /f /sync

Nothing I seem to do works. I have a laptop at home that is currently not in Inventory (was set to remove entries older than 30 days, I have also changed this to not happen), I've tried to manually run BrokerConfig, reinstalled my new agent, manually run scans. Nothing I seem to do works, and I need to find a way to get about 300 computers back into inventory. Can anyone help me out? I'm out of ideas.

Thanks

Cant see a device in all devices

Hi Guys,

I installed new 9.5 core server and now im trying to migrate clients from old 9.0 core server to it.

Im redeploying agents from new core server to all devices. So far everything worked like charm.

Now I found a device that I sucessfully deployed agent to but that device do not apear in all devices list.

Im able to connect to it using remote control.

I was also able to run manual security and inventory scan from the device. I saw that this device was communicating with right core during this scan but It didnt apear in the list.

(no error on client during scan)

I tired to completely remove - reinstall the agent but behaviour of this device is still the same.

Core server and the device are on the same network. All firewalls are dissabled.

Does anyone have an idea what might be the problem ?

Thanks
